POKER BOOKS

Postby Todd Rivers » Fri Nov 28, 2008 4:49 pm

If you are ever considering paying some dollars for a poker book, do it!

I was told that i would cover the cost of the book in just one hand some day and it came true!

I'm playing cash table around a mates place and Im heads up with Ian Howarth in a hand. IMO Ian is the best poker player going around in my region. i have AK hearts and he has called my $10 raise.

FLOP is [Kc] [8h] [Jh] I bet $30 Ian calls. TURN: [Kd] I bet $50 Ian calls.

RIVER is [7h] Puzzled I check.

Ian goes all-in for about $250, i've got about $200 left.

I go in the tank for an eternity, watching him, looking for something, anything, that will give him away. Then it happens!

Ian reaches for a cigarette, lights it, draws back then blows a HUGE smokestack straight up in the air like Popeye tooting on his pipe.

"I FOLD!" i declare throwing over the nut flush, "show me ur straight flush or full book." Ian duly rolls over [9h] [Th]

The book taught me that one! And it saved me $200, and it only cost $30.

INCREDIBLY, i lost to a straight flush the VERY NEXT HAND to Bahri Ozbiricik, he had been bluffing all night and i just didn't believe it was possible, but there you go. Play poker long enuff and you'll see it all!

It pretty much wasted anyway Bob as there aren't a lot of places left where you can smoke and play poker. :(

That was another of my stupid idea's "SMOKER POKER" - special outdoor events for those that like to puff and play! :D

There is a similar tell however with chewing gum! ;)

Have to disagree with you toddy about ian howarth being a very good player. Better than average yes, but if you can't read him than thats a problem with your game. Don't think i have ever misread the guy in a hand.
