Chasers

Postby Nevah play JJ » Wed Sep 17, 2008 1:11 pm

We all play against them at some point..

My question is, what on earth do you stop those players that chase anything and everything and for that matter, how do we stop those players that call every single hand dealt to them?

For some reason these players always seem to get lucky.

Continually punish them by overbetting and having them keep calling. Blast their pot odds out of the water and sooner or later (unfortunately later with some people) they'll get the idea that chasing to the river usually means they lose too much.

May take a while, but people do learn if they hang around long enough. Of course it won't work if it's their first and only tournament...

i dont really see this problem of chasers as much as u do JJ, but we do play at different venues so the south could be different

if u give me a flush draw and give me 6 to 1 pot odds when the chances of hitting that flush card is approx 4 to 1 im going to chase everyday of the week, especially if i got the chips to do so

maybe if u feel a certain player is doing this, push them all in and see if they want to risk there entire stack to hit that gut shot, if they do its just bad luck but most of the time u will win the hand with top pair etc

Good reading you guys!!!
Seriousy... :)

I will give you an example...

Being a tight player, I don't play Ace rag unless I get a bit antsy and really want to play a hand.. lol

But.. I had AK ... raised preflop, 3x blind.

Flop comes out - A2?

One of the players calls me and I hit the A on the flop, I did a continuation bet, she called.

Turn nothing helps, so I went all in to remove her from the pot.. SHE CALLED!!!!

I thought.. damn, she has something....

She turned over 2,5 offsuit.

Damn river produces another 2.

Now common, she has 3 over cards on the board before the river, she knows I don't bet on garbage or bluff... (which I often think is the bummer about playing regular venues and regular people).

Why call with at best a pair of 2's

I asked her outright why she would play that rubbish....
I get the answer
I see something to fight for and I dig my teeth in... it is the Celtic in me...
Now that just really REALLY peeves me off...

But again... I just don't see how to shake people off....
Maybe I should just fold and not give them anymore of my chips, but then that makes me seem ever so weak.....

Keep betting and make them pay for their draws.

I think of it this way, if they are 'chasing', it means they have the worst hand. Don't you WANT people calling you down with the worst hand?

Long term, you will bich richer and not poorer.

Also, think about how much you are betting. I see a LOT of people betting very small amounts into very large pots and then whinging that Aces always get beaten, and why the hell do you chase you're straight etc etc.

DON'T TAP THE GLASS. Let the carp players stay carp. It means you have a big advantage over them.

If i have top-top, i want people calling my all in with bottom pair. Do it every single time. Im gonna make more money than them in the long run.

absolutely!

JJ - you seem to do well in your results. I'm assuming you play tight and reasonably aggressive most of the time? Can you honestly say the "chasers" win more than they lose? Or do you just remmeber the times you lose, and think nothing of it when they don't catch you.

Who FTs consistently? Aint them I'm sure - every now and then, one of them will smash a night, and you'll finish something like 5th or 6th, but the next night you'll back it up with another FT - they'll be hanging around to be redrawn ;)

Let them chase their draws - you'll come out in front. And hopefully they never learn :D
edit: well at least before I get to play with them!

Tell them just how crap they are and hopefully they won't come back :D

Ok... maybe don't do that.

I can't help but chuckle at some of the references to pot odds as though the chaser has even considered anything other than the total pot and 'ooh that's how much I can win".

Maybe try giving them something shiny to play with just before every hand :)
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!
