Dean Bailey was sacked at 8pm last night and Jim Stynes confirmed that Todd Viney will be the interim coach, Cameron Schawb has been given a 1 year extension to his contract as CEO, Chris Connelly has the full support of the board in the position of General Manager of Football Operations.
42.7 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot.

Kind of a rash decision to sack Bailey IMO, especially so soon. He didn't seem like he was the best coach but you can't place all the blame for Saturdays performance on him.

Plus, there's only 5 games, it was pretty clear he wasn't going to get renewed anyway so why not let him run his contract out? This is just gonna cause more drama at MFC, something the players don't need when they're vying for a finals spot.

I think it was the club's intention to let him coach the last 5 games before the weekends result.

There was a rumour that Bailey may even get a 1 year extension on his contract and it looked very obvious to me on the weekend, that the players were letting the board know what they thought of that.

Yeh I agree with this. You don't have to sack the coach after the WHOLE team puts in a poor performance and with 5 games left. Bailey has just become the scapegoat when a lot of the Melbourne players are just as equally to blame.

Edit: grammar

If that's the case then shame on the Melbourne players for letting down their supporters just to make a point. Shame shame shame.

I think they don't believe in his game plan.

The same thing happened to Wayne Schimmelbusch back in 1993 against Adelaide when North lost by 143 points in a pre-season game.

I know for a fact, players threw that game [and our best players were our new recruits.] and we won every pre-season game after that when Denis Pagan was appointed and we were on Top of the ladder most of that year finishing 3rd.

Nah, we finished 3rd, half a game from 1st & 2nd.

Kangas played WC in first week of finals [I was there :( ] and we got smacked and knocked out 1st week of finals under old system which didn't give 2nd chance for 3rd.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993_AFL_season

north finished third in minor round, if you count finals - which i would do without stipulating minor round, crows finished third.

so you are both right, but matthew is more right :D
