Raffle tickets & filling out passports

Postby falcongt_au » Sun Nov 20, 2011 5:33 pm

Hi all,

We recently had some changes to our structure this season & I am posting this to get a comparison to the way the games are structured in Vic & SA.
My regular venue has been the New Norfolk RSL. the main prize was $75 1st, Carton beer 2nd & 6 pack for third. Additional money was awarded to the winner through the raffle (50-60) and the raffle winner recieved roughly 60-70.
As of this season we can win $50 1st & 6 pack for 2nd, no 3rd. The 1st place prize is advertised as $100 but you must buy a $5 raffle ticket in order to get the greater amount, but to buy the ticket you must fill both poker passports.
The winner of the raffle recieves less than half of what last season offered &
no raffle money is allocated to the venue winner on the night as previously.

Any thoughts on how this compares to venues in your states would be appreciated to help understand the current changes taking forth here.

IMO any prize in a freeroll can't be sneezed at. Numbers do the talking here, if you don't like what's happening voice your opinion to the management of the RSL club and change venue if you're not satisfied with their actions.

that seems pretty decent in comparison - with a few notable exceptions (like the brahma lodge which had a $500 for first for a little while), the standard seems to be $50 for first, and $25 for second. anything else over and above that seems to be pretty decent.

i actually like the idea of a $5 raffle only for those who have stamped both cards, because it means that they are rewarding those that stamp up

$30-50 Venue voucher for 1st in the Vic venues I play(ed).
6 pack or beam cans 2nd
Often nothing for 3rd.

Sounds like you are on a decent thing down there.
May all your pain be champagne!

Ok here's the thing & thank you for the replies,
We get text messages promoting venues & one of them was a month ago that clearly stated that "$100 to the winner at NNRsl tonight" with that the guy who won only got a carton of beer & 2nd place got the $100. Avertising the prizes & changing them at the venue isn't right & the guy who actually came 1st was shafted over this raffle ticket debacle.
No where on the websites is this condition of buying tickets posted & it is not mentioned at the venues unless asked about.

Another angle of this I'll put to you in regards to 'free poker'
You can buy 3 raffle tickets on a night @ $5 and in doing so you will be chipped up 4000 in chips.
plus your 2 poker passports which add up to 6000
Starting stack of 2000 plus that 10000 as stated makes 12000 a good start so if you can
survive with just the starting stack then why not be entitled to advertised prizes.

And to 888Larx36 I'd like you to please give this some consideration,
Our numbers went up, prize money dropped, money from nightly raffles that were split 50/50 between venue winner & raffle winner last season now only rewards raffle winner with $1 from every ticket sold.
You said I should talk to management here or change venues, well NNRsl became APL last week so 888 lost another venue, and we have a Facebook website for 888Tas where you can ask questions to the people involved in the change's and if you took some time to see how none of the questions in regards to my concerns are not answered, even worse they are responded with different subjects all together to dance around the problem you may see
why the frustration.
I'm always open to new things and will take on any feedback onboard. cheers

Just to recap, changing venues will not help as this condition of filling out passports to be able to buy a raffle ticket is at all 888 venues over here, that is why I am asking if this is the situation in your states. And just for interest's sake, I fill both my poker passports out, dont buy a raffle ticket & win the venue should I not be entitled to the full amound of winnings?

If you dont contribute to the raffle, then you shouldn't be able to win any prize pool generated by the raffle. Imo.

Ok, this text was sent to 888players in tassie 4 weeks ago "888PL tonight at New Norfolk RSL with $100 cash for winner and massive $900 final table royal flush jackpot! Rego from 6:30pm reply stop to opt out"
That is word for word. On the night a guy who hadn't been in for 12 months played & won and only filled out his poker passports because he was drinking, nothing about raffle tickets was mentioned or announced & he got a carton for winning and 2nd place got the $100.
Isn't there legality issues there? and this is all fact.

A raffle is a raffle - you pay and get drawn out.

To put the raffle money into a prize that you have to work to win at - is wrong.

Might as well call it a $5 longest lasting.

So this person wasn't asked whether he wanted to buy a raffle ticket when he registered?

That seems to be the mistake here. He definitely should have been informed, but I doubt there is any legal type issues
