in general, 25% chance of winning = you will win 1 in 4 = you have pot odds of 3:1. i.e you will lose 3 times for every time you win. hope that makes sense. but i want you do go through and calculate these things yourself

before i go through my answers, i want people to have a think about how they would calculate this themselves.

here is a good start

if you have any specific questions, i am happy to answer them.

JMACK when I started out converting X to 1 pot odds to a fraction then to a percentage and back put me on life tilt even though its not so hard really.

X% = X/100 = 1/Y = [Y-1] to 1
25% = 25/100 = 1/4 = [4-1] to 1 = 3 to 1
33% = 33/100 = 1/3 = [3-1] to 1 = 2 to 1

Yeah, that's my point, too many people look at odds like 3:1 and say cool I have a 1 in 3 chance of winning. We are here to help right? So a more detailed explaination of these things should be given...

How have you calculated your odds for calling preflop with this hand benny the cunt?

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but this will be the first thread that many people see on the forum because it has been advertised on FB, so teaching them to call with this hand played as it was preflop might not be the best example...???

firstly, i would say that this call is 100% fine when you have more than about 20bb. in this case, i have said that we are deep. so calling with a lot of hands worse than JT is also fine.

secondly, this isn't a strategy thread.

the whole point is to get you to be able to calculate some pot odds. the hand is an example. the strategy isn't for discussion in this thread, because there is none - we are presented with a situation on the flop and asked to calculate some odds.

if you want to discuss calling with JTs i will happily do this in another thread. in fact i created another thread yesterday, we can debate it in that one.

i would be interested in your responses to the questions jmack.

the race for the $1 is still wide open :D (wabbit might have it at the moment, trishan technically isn't in the race for it as he has over 800 posts :P)

I don't want your blood money lol

I noticed from your reply Ben that you like to calc odds as X to 1 for comparisons. I like % comparisons. Any reason why X to 1 odds might be better than % odds.
