we call on the button, the blinds fold.

we have [js] [ts]
opponent has ??

board is [6c] [7h] [9d]

the opponent bets 1200 into the pot of 5700

i am expecting at least a sentence on each of these questions, as well as your working out.

1.what are pot odds in general terms? what direct pot odds are we getting here? (maths question)
2. what is our percentage chance of having a better hand on the turn/river, if our opponent has a) [ac] [ah] b) [9h] [2c] (use pokerstove or odds calculator)
3. what are the minimum odds we require in each of the above cases (hint: turn the above percentage into a pot odds number).
4. are we getting the correct odds if our opponent has either of the 2 hands above.
5. give me a short sentence on implied odds. comment on the significance of implied odds in this case. how does the board texture affect implied odds.

benny the cunt said on FB that I may have a go at answering and in an attempt to get this thread going, I will do so. I have put my answers inside a spoiler incase others wanna try answering first. I have also tried to explain it all as easily as possible.
Spoiler:
1.) I always calculate pot odds as a percentage as I can make comparisons with equity percentages. So in order to make a correct call, your win % must be greater than your pot odds %.

Let's calculate the pot odds. The opponent bets 1200 into 5700 therefore the total pot is 6900.

You have to call 1200 to win 6900.

6900/1200 = 5.75

You are getting odds of 5.75 to 1.

To get the odds as a percentage, the easiest way is:

Bet/[Pot + Bet]
1200/[6900+1200]
1200/8100
=.1481 = 14.81%

2.)
If our opponent has [Ac][Ah], then according to poker stove we have 20.3% equity. If our opponent holds [9h][2c] we have 38.5% equity.

At the table: At the table you don't have Pokerstove but you can calculate approximate equity percentages using the following rule:
i.) On the flop:
Number of Outs * 4 + 2
ii.) On the turn:
Number of Outs * 2 + 2

How many outs do we have for [Ac][Ah]? We have four 8s which will give us a straight. Therefore using the rule of thumb:

Number of Outs * 4 + 2
4 * 4 + 2= ~18%

How many outs do we have for [9h][2c]? We can any one of the 3 remaining 10s or the 3 remaining Js. We also can hit any one of the four 8s to make a straight. So all up we have 10 outs.

Number of Outs * 4 + 2
10 * 4 + 2= ~42%

These approximations are close enough when playing live.

3.) When out win % is greater than our pot odds %, we are getting the odds to call. When our win % is less than out pot odds % we are not getting the odds to call. The minimum odds we require to call a hand is when pots odds % = win %

So in the above cases, for [Ac][Ah] we had 20.3% and for [9h][2c] we had 38.5% equity. Our pot odds % must therefore be less than or equal to these percentages to justify a call. We are getting pots odds of 14.8% so we would call in both instances as our win % is greater than pot odds %.

4.) See above.

Can I add a question as well benny the cunt lol?

Say you had [Ac][Ah] and your opponent had [Js][10s]. You are first to act, what is the minimum you should bet into the pot of 5700 to price out draws?

Ok benny the cunt, I’m really slack at posting so I qualify “yippie”

Now I’m thinking the villain might be a good player

So lets say that he’ll raise 2400 in mid position with pocket pairs AA through to 88 and AKs, AQs, AJs and AKo AQo
So with Js 10s we have 28.4% equity in the hand. There is now 6900 in the pot and we need 1200 to call. According to the equity we will win roughly 1 in 3 times so therefore the maximum bet we can call is about 2300 the bet stands at 1200. We should call.
This person is giving us 5.75 to 1 on our money, we only need 3 to 1 to call.

If the opponent bets about half the pot 2850 we are also getting 3 to 1 to call.

But if the opponent bets ¾ of the pot we are now getting 2.33 on the 4275 to call therefore we should fold, we are going to lose out in the long run.

Question 2 -
AA v's J10s and the flop 9d,7h,6c we now 22.576% (stoved) equity roughly the highest bet we should call is 1550. So again we should still consider calling.

If we used Phil Gordons rule of 4, we have 4 outs for the nut straight, so about a 16% chance of getting that, the highest bet we should call is about 1100 and not call, theres still the Jacks and tens which will improve our hand.

now if our opponent had 9h,2c we now have a 38% equity in hand the highest bet we should call is about 2622.

with 99, our equity drops to 15.3% the highest bet we should call is 872.

question 3, i'm sticking with the 3-1 as explanied above

question 4, see above

question 5, well if this person does have AA and willing to commit there entire stack then you could be getting much better odds than the 5.75 we were getting in the first question. Cant really answer this without knowning how much in chips is left, I know we all often believe AA will still be the best by the river and have gone all in when the board straights or flushes.

I hope thats right, i've really gotta sit down one day and learn more about pot odds :).

where did you get this information from?

you dont need to guess ranges or anything, its a pot odds and maths question

when you answer the question, can you please address what part you are asking specifically

I didn't get it from anywhere in particular, but really need to ask myself what does he have, who the player is what they are likely to raise with. Most times i'm going to try and put the person on a hand as they would try and do to me... now the question is why are they betting 1200 into a pot of 5700, have they put u on a range and testing you. Are they going to re-raise if you raise the 1200 etc etc..

In terms of odds... yes call :)
