Aggression

Postby DJKRUSTY » Mon Mar 03, 2008 10:54 am

I was pleased to hear that NPL management had the balls to give a "Life" time ban to a player last week following a blue at one of the venues at which I play.

The way in which the TD on duty and the Pub management handled the situation is to be commended. After all most players play poker for enjoyment and fun not to be intimidated or abused by players who think that they "Own" the table.......

We all know that so long as you have a "chip and a chair" you still have a chance...that's what Poker is all about. I'm sure that this swift and decisive action by NPL Management will do two things (1) get the message out that this behaviour is not acceptable and will not be tolerated no matter who you are or what your state ranking is and (2) that the integrity of the NPL remains in tact !!

Are you allowed to provide any details about the incident?

Who isn't important, but I think what is.

I did'nt see the entire incident myself or what started it, but was aware it happened and that it could have easily escalated. The message here is that violence is not acceptable at NPL games and will not be tolerated.
As I said before NPL management is to be commended for the way in which they handled this situation.

Firstly please let me say that i dont agree with violence.
So people are pleased that a lifetime ban was given out !
I wonder if those same people believe in respect ?
I believe this incident didnt really have anything to do with poker or the great staff that run these tourneys for us or the venue itself.
In my opinion some big fella disrespected a little fella thinking he could get away with it and got what he deserved.
Also in my opinion the banned player done the right thing, the player was disrespected but could not go to a td (cause really what can they or what would they do about this?), The player didnt want to cause a scene at the venue because he has respect for all the staff (Venue & Npl) and also the patrons of this venue & the poker players. He took his issues outside, where words were spoken trying to resovle this and unfortunatley it ended this way
It really does not matter if you won 10 tourneys or if you have won none, you may have finished top of the state or 500th in the state but everybody deserves respect
To finish off, was the penalty harsh ? could this have been a 3mth ban or a 2 season ban for a 1st offence the lifetime ban for a second offence ?
Everybody deserves respect but everybody deserves the right to have there own opinion

So something happened outside a venue?

Where exactly does the line stop.. If someone follows someone else home and does the same thing, would a ban result?

You bring up a very good and valid question David.

I don't know the full details so I'm not going to speculate but in my opinion, if both were not involved in the tourney and it was outside then it's no longer anything to do with the NPL. They are then just patrons of the venue, they may both happen to be poker players but they might both be Catholics, gay, short, or whatever else you can think of too so who cares?

If one or both of them was still in the tourney then that's very different.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

I dont think anyone knows the whole story as each version i hear is different so really we can't comment until we know the whole truth.

As for "outside" I heard it was still on the premises, but in an outside area. But then again I could have been told wrong information.

Also seeing as the violence stemmed from actions/comments which occured in an NPL tournament I think the ban is valid because if nothing was done... everyone will just wait till after the tournament and then do things.

The length of the ban, personnally, I'm not 100% sure on. Lifetime seem's harsh. But a 2 season ban would definately not be enough. Maybe a full year (5 season) ban? I guess its like AFL suspensions, no one really agree's with them do they?

But I'd too like to commend the NPL on the swift action taken. Thing's like this should never happen. The line has now been drawn in the sand and now everyone should know what will happen if this occurs again.

OK OK I'll stop David. You happy now! :D

Sorry guys. Outside in the beer garden is still in the venue as far as NPL is concerned. As for respect, we all deserve it, but at what point does commonsense prevail. They were just words. Laugh it off and walk away. Get them where it hurts.....on the felt!

I don't agree Des.
Let's take this outside.
