Table Trash Talk

Hi Guys (and Girls),

I've been noticing lately that there is an ever increasing amount of trash talk becoming among us regular players at certain events.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a bit of freindly banter, but agressive trash talking, personal insults on the hands previous played, such as "how could you play K2 with a A on the flop!" I believe that it is not acceptable at the table. especially when your not in the hand and calling an the play.

I have on some occasions spoken up in defence of some players, telling the offender to back down, only to get flamed myself.

and i dont believe its in the spirit of the game to have to call over your TD and make a spectacle of the situation, so how bout we all grow up and stop this before it gets out of hand?

table talk in general should be left to after the hand, i hate when people say "come on, u gotta call" when i have just raised with a massive bluff that i knew they would fold.

in regards to the agressive trash talk, some people need to get over themselves and realise that this is NPL free poker, not WPT. if thats they way someone wants to play, then good luck to them. they might not be successful, but thats their business

Get out the Jack Daniels and have a dose of HTFU.

somewhat harsh I think Hausler.

There's friendly ribbing and a little less friendly jibing - these can all be easily tolerated.

If it goes further than that a HTFU shouldn't be required. The offender will find themselves sitting down for a little less time than they previously thought.

context is everything.

If there is extreme sledging involved, sure there should be a penalty. NPL has a no swearing policy, so if this is happening the TD is certainly within his/her rights to penalise the offender in someway.

If its just "I had it all over you" or "How could you play K2 with A on the flop?" I don't see anything wrong. Even the best players trash talk. But again, it depends on the context. If it happens for a long period of time, then again the TD should be dealing with it. If its only once every now and then I'm all for it.

I enjoy a bit of banter, it helps me focus on the cards and gives me the desire to beat the bantee. Each to their own though I guess.
