Marked Cards & crooked dealers

Postby sirplus » Wed Jan 23, 2008 11:02 pm

I saw a guy dealing kinda funny and said nothing but later got hold of a couple of dvd about crooked dealers & cheating esp. in holdem (yes it does happen enough to justify someone making the videos which will blow your mind how easy and sneaky it could be done) to see if I could be more confidant to say if something was wrong.

Very interesting.

Watched it and happy to say I am slightly sure I was wrong about this guy but will be watching like a hawk next time we cross paths.

BUT

At the very next tourney I saw a marked card in the deal.
Without looking at face I pointed it out to the table and all decided to proceed. When we finished the hand checked & sure enough it was an Ace like I predicted.

We swapped it but we all had a hard time believing that some one had cheated.

I point out that as the cards are reused then it may not even have been at our venue.

It does happen and could be much more common than you think; just be careful out there.

Thats why the player behind the dealer cuts the cards... this reduces the probability of card mechanics. Also the cut card is always on the bottom of the deck, thus you can't deal from the bottom either.

I hear you
Thats not what happened in either of these cases
I don't want to say too much in case people get ideas

Like I say
These DVD blew me away

and that card ws marked by someone who was dealt it
and that deal was sus enough to prompt me to investigate

btw
Don't you sleep?

Saw the old claytons cut on Tuesday night
I was out of the game and saw the cutter cut the cards then place the bottom bunch on the cut card then proceed to place the cut cards back on top.
I brought it to the attention of the table and TA and a miss deal was called.
Now i dont know if it was coincident or drunkedness but when the dealer was about to deal he fanned the top few cards to the cutter.
Looked a bit sus so i told a few of the players to watch more carefully especially as they had made the final table
I havent come across many cheats in the NPL but there were a few that i caught out in APL by marking cards with finger nails. Low and behold i was playing at an NPL venue and a few players from the APL venue were at the table. I spotted the same marks and requested a deck change. Not once but 3 times. Just couldnt prove which one was doing it

Let's also not forget WHY we burn a card, and how silly you look if you burn it early :P
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

i think dakota is a crooked dealer, he always seems to rig the deck so i dont get any cards on the final table
