Lets get this out of the way first. benny the cunt, you're a legend.

Now, onto everyone else! How was your champs weekend? Did you bust early? Run deep? Any hands you feel like discussing in here? Cash in any events?

First off, I want to say a big thanks to all the 888pl staff for running the weekend. Excellent showing once again fellas. Few minor quibbles though.

Having to purchase a $30 pay and play card just to be able to play in the 6max sit n go for the 888pl hoodie was stupid. I already had money in my account, why can't I just use that? Having it as a prerequisite stopped me and a lot of other players from playing it. I can understand making the purchase compulsory if a player has no money on their 888pl account (business ftw), but for everyone else, it seemed silly.

Also, what was with not allowing regional teams to enter with full squads? Barossa Gawler barely filled our team, I think we ended up with 9 - and only just because Kara Rabig busted from the ME 2 mins before the regional event was about to start.

I have no issue with the qualification process - top 10 is cool. And if top 10 aren't around, scroll down to top 20. Fair enough. But we didn't anyone from the top 20 to fill our spots, and I had been waiting around all day as I busted from the ME just after the first break. Why shouldn't I be allowed to play? I didn't play much live last season and actually had no idea where I finished in the region (something like 35th I was told). A top 20 player even offered me their spot when they heard what was going on.

I just don't see why you wouldn't want teams to list full squads if they have the players available. Let me make it clear that I wasn't looking to take anyone's spot, I said from the start if there is room I'll play, but only if everyone eligible had been asked first. If you've gone through the top 20, and still don't have enough players, why not grab any players from your region that are hanging around, and willing to play?

My ME story is pretty boring. Ran up to 9k at break, came back and picked up KK early, 3b a shortie all in, called by AJ, AA4 flop, he shoves I lay it down. Down to 12bbs and didn't get anything going till I was at 10bbs with QQ utg. Should've crammed it, but I went 3xBB, called by BTN and BB, 968r flop, BB leads for 3k I shove for 5.2k, BTN folds and BB calls with JTs, 7 turn, gg me.

By the way, did everyone notice the way Barossa/Gawler CRUSHED the Champs weekend?

- David Thomas 4th, Invitational Deepstack
- BGers 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Terminator FTT
- SHIPPING THE REGIONAL TEAM EVENT
- Bennymacca winning the ME

makes me proud to be part of the " heatbeat" of the now 888pl.com and that I can fold to and play against some of the ' Leagues Finest...' as they say here in the Barossa..."Barossa Proud"

Congratulations to me for knocking Aaron out of the deepstack with my awesome dealing, even though he had 14 outs on the river, thus proving he can't RLA all the time.

Did I do it right?

Hey just as an add on, I wanted to say how awesome it was to meet
Peter (The photographer - who seemed to do a fantastic job).
Peter (Little excitable bloke that just seemed to be loving every minute of the day)
Cheryl, who seems just lovely and has always had something of value to say on the forums, (Sorry I said your name wrong, I was tired and really drained, but I still knew who you were).
Gundog, now seeing the man, you can imagine the tone and the type of message behind a majority of his pots.
benny the cunt, I don't think anything needs to be said here.

Also running into BigPete, ALK, Krunchie and Marino again.. as well as many other forum members was without doubt an added bonus to getting together for the weekend.

I am also really disappointed I didn't get to meet Bruce, maybe next time? or maybe at Berri? I would really appreciate it if someone came up and pointed Bruce out to me.

Anyway, enough ramblings.

I had a really good day, just not as good as benny the cunt's :) Well done again benny the cunt, I'm still really stoked for you.

Managed to see some playable hands fairly early in the 1st session, low pocket pairs which I alternated between raising and just calling with. Flopped a set of 4's and managed to rob a guy of over half his chip stack when he turned 2 pair. Probably could have nicked even more from him but didn't have him on 2 pair, just top pair so oh well. That gave me a bit of room to start pressuring the table and due to the awesome blind structure I had the luxury of being able to pick my moments. I reckon I had a fairly strong read on one guy down to the point where I correctly put him on pocket 2's, good thing I got out of that hand too, he ended up with quads!

Table got broken roughly midway through the 2nd session and I have to admit I promptly got dealt a great range of cards. AA soon as I sat down, AK twice in a row not long after, JJ the next hand (although that one cost me 20k), and AK again not long after that and even AA again shortly after. I reckon I knocked 5 players off that table in a couple of blind levels. I'm sure they hated me :)

Table got broken again and was seated to the right of Jamie (forget last name) but I suspect he was one of the Jamie's who did well on the Saturday. He had the big stack at the table and had about 30% more than me. I took him for about half his stack and on one hand I was oh so very sure I was getting most if not all of it. I raised preflop with JT offsuit and he flat called. Flop was J J T. I checked, he bet a decent amount and I had to decide if I wanted to just call or re-raise. I looked at my stack and figured a re-raise was close enough to all-in anyway and I was fairly certain he had a hand and would likely call so I declared allin and gave him a decision to make. Well he must have tanked for 5 minutes solid! He was practically convincing himself I hadn't hit the board and I was thinking 'oh please oh please oh please' but he eventually talked himself out of it and folded and then showed pocket 4's. I showed him my flopped full house with the intention of doing the same thing next time with absolute air to try and steal more chips from him but sadly didn't get the chance as he got moved. Pity, because I was really enjoying making him sweat.

Raised with AJ and flopped 2 pair and got paid big time when a guy pushed allin thinking I had none of it, that's the hand Garth described in the live reporting and that pushed me over the 100k mark and I was feeling VERY good about my chances for the rest of the tourney.

Sadly though, it was all downhill from there. A large preflop raise with 9T suited (yes, it was spades) *almost* made someone fold AK offsuit, he took AGES to eventually call and looked extremely worried doing it - he was basically convinced I already had him smashed and christ I wish he did lay them down because he pushed allin for only a couple of k more and I was happy to race that hand against anything preflop with only one other player so I called but he flopped an A and it was goodbye to about 20k.

Another hand that cained me was pretty much what killed me. I still can't decide if I should have played it differently on the river. I raised preflop and got called by what I would describe as an idiot loose player who had just come to the table not long beforehand (later found out he was from the B&G region). The flop was no help to me but he didn't know that (not to mention he checked) and I put in a reasonable continuation bet and he flat called fairly quickly and I can't recall why but I was fairly certian he didn't have much. He checked again on the turn and I was wondering wtf he had so figured it safest to check also. River card wasn't special and again he checked. I then instantly kicked myself for not noticing earlier the 2 spades on the flop and the lack of any further spades. So I gave it some thought and knowing if this guy had even hit the board I was losing a LOT of chips and I put out a deliberately small bet in order for it to look like a made hand as there was a fairly clear straight opportunity on the board (which I narrowly missed). He then declares "I reckon that's a sucker bet and I'm stuffed, I call, oh my god I am stupid" and he rolls over K2 of spades which was good enough to beat me as I'd missed everything.

I wanted to beat the shit out of him.

Who the hell calls when they're that sure they are beaten and haven't hit a damn thing?

I think if I jammed it on the river he may have folded but at the same time he saw the sucker bet for what it was (even though it was a bluff) and STILL called knowing he should have folded. I'm going to start folding peoples cards for them.

I was pretty much restricted to one move only at that stage but thankfully still had enough to wait for a reasonable hand with which to push. Got moved to the feature table and managed to hold on until the bubble burst (yay!) and eventually lost out to a set of 5's versus my QJ suited which missed everything. Can't complain with cashing though! That's 2 cashes from 2 events over the Championship Weekend so I'm still really happy with my overall performance.

firstly, well done pete, all you needed was a couple of races to go the other way, and its another final table. well done.

in these cases, i reckon a min raise or something similar is a better way to go.

lots of times, people will instacall 1 chip less than an all in, but as soon as you say those words, it makes them stop and think twice, and gives them a chance to fold. if you min raise they will call straight away, and then realise after that they have just comitted themselves.

so the first thing i think is am i getting it in on any turn/river anyway? if the answer is yes, then i bet less and even if that means some sort of crappy bet left over for the turn, then thats ok

just my 2 cents

I definitely considered that, but was also fairly sure he would call as he had only played back at my raises when he actually had a hand and had folded everything else.

He wasn't one of those muppets that just HAS to see a flop :)

He pretty much had to talk himself into folding, was spewing he didn't actually call.
