Riverland Regional Final & Teams event

Postby maccatak11 » Sun Oct 19, 2008 3:06 pm

I have only heard about this by phone call today, so i might be corrected on some of the details.

But a huge congratulations to Toddy Rivers for organising what will be an awesome event. On top of the normal regional individual competition, it seems a "venue of origin" teams event will be embedded into the bigger competition.

7 players have been chosen to represent each venue, and i assume they will earn points depending on their finish in the regionals toward this separate competition.

Looking at the people chosen from Waikerie, it seems that the top 5 from each venues leaderboard, plus two others who have performed well at other venues or are handy players have been selected.

What an excellent idea, and will make this tournament one of my poker highlights for the year. I cashed at the last regionals, so im aiming to go back to back final tables, and to captain the Waikerie Club to victory.

In the words of the late big kev, IM EXCITED!!!

Just so people know there are 8 venues in the riverland region.

Barmera Hotel
Berri Resort Hotel
Cobdogla Club
Renmark Club
Renmark Footy Club
Waikerie Club

Lameroo Hotel Motel
Broken Hill Musicians Club

It would be interesting to see of teams are fielded from the bottom two venues. It was great to meet a few people from lameroo travel the 2 hours for last years regions, but i doubt people from broken hill will travel the 4-5 hours :D

But im pumped for what should be an awesome event.

You'll have all the details Tuesday night Macca, see Graham Baldwin or Petro.

There are only 6 players per team.
Seven were named in case some can't play.

Its up to the Captain to pick the final 6.
If more than one named player cant make it, you can put in anyone of YOUR chosing as Captain (no ring-ins, must be locals).

Added responsibility - Captains points count for DOUBLE!!

Feeling the weight yet?

Ummm, actually Macca, you jumped the gun on me here i've just realised.

And I've just re-read your post.

This competition is not embedded into the Regional Final, is was going to be but there was an unusual coincidence......

The Renmark Clubs usual Thurday night game is cancelled due to 280 people booking in for tea for another huge event.

So Saturday is a double-header.
1pm rego, 2pm start - Normal game for points (points go to Renmark Club regular season) with teams event incorporated.

6.30 rego - 7.30 start - Regional Final.

So its 2 games back - to - back!

If you can't make the early game, Krunchie is Captain

Yeah that may be a problem, tennis starts this weekend. I may have to wangle something or fake an injury, do it might be up to vice captain krunchie to fly the waikerie flag. He will do a fansational job but :(

wow macka thats some very small shoes to fill mate

actually todd, ( and i havent made my decison yet ) but im not sure thats the greatest of ideas

in order to have this teams event work you want all the best players there from each venue

now it just so happens that most would be making them selves avalilbe for the regionals so you are going to have the majority of your best players ready and willing to go.

but instead you hold it during the day during a regular game, on a saturday afternoon no less, when most will be either making the most of there weekend or playing sport ( like maca, and a heap of others who play cricket tennis etc)

i wasnt actually going to make my self availible for the early game due to family comitments but now i will have to re think my plans and negiotiate with the wife.

But my point is if 2 or 3 of the waikerie people cant make it how many from each team will be in the same position, i would wager quite a few will have their weekend plans changed because of this.

It just makes sense to me to play the thing during the night when we will all be there.

Krunchie has spoken :D
Does anyone know how to make money playing uno vs 6 year olds, its about the only card game i get to play these days.

Yes, agree with you there, but i didnt know until early this week about the Thursday night cancellation, and with the Renmark Show on this weekend we had to get something different in the early game, i have requested more prizemoney too (fingers crossed), for the early game.

As with anything these days, people will be disappointed with something, it doesnt work for them, and that sux.

But, all that aside, we'll still have 50-60 runners and a great day no matter who can or can't make it!

Lots of people have things on that day, but ultimately, you come or you don't, thats up to you ain't it? :D

dont get me wrong, i have spoken to macca personally, and we are both in agreement on how good this idea is , and are both very excited by the concept

just disapointed it may not work out.

but as you said thats our choice not your fault.
