A question for DUG!

I didn't want to hijack Seans post about what NPL has done for us, but I did want to see if I could understand why some of those that use forums have the need to degrade those of us that posted in that forum.

So having said that......

Dug wrote:looks like steve_g is the only one with the same sense of humour.

Why is that? Because he laughed at what you posted?
That doesn't mean he has a sense of humour?
Personally I don't know what it means.

Maybe he is as mean spirited as you?
Maybe he is just trying to be polite.
Frankly I couldn't give a toss.

Dug wrote:I mean no offense to anyone, i'm just trying to make a joke out of such a corny thread.

You obviously did, you stated your point and then proceeded to post another sarcastic comment.

Maybe you didn't think your original post was offensive enough?

However.....
Fair enough Dug.

Do you think you could take the time to explain to me or anyone else that would like to know ..... Just what is the joke?

What in anything you have written is funny?

I can assure you that if you can explain it to me, I will attempt to find it humourous.

Dug wrote:Seriously people lighten up.

I have a sense of humour, I don't need to lighten up.
I do however feel you need to revaluate what you see as being "funny".

geez i'm flattered to be quite frank.

If you dont get sarcasm then there is no point in explaining why i found that post funny or anyone else for that matter. Full stop.

Mean spirited, hardly.

Ok. Ok. You want me to genuinly reply to that thread to make it easier for you to understand. Here it is...

"How NPL has helped me, is that before NPL came along, or any other league for that matter, i hardly was interested in poker. Now i'm hooked, just like every other NPL player i'm sure.
I have made some good poker friends, had a laugh and enjoy most people's company. Its a good chance to catch up with my close friends too, and some family members for that matter.
NPL provide a good, professional service that keeps me out of trouble and provides some entertainment, when i've got nothing else to do, and unfortunately sometimes when i do have things to do.
All in all, NPL is great for poker and the venues, and i'm sure the casino is happy too, as it attracts more people to play for cash"

There thats my opinion.

But if you cant see the sarcasic side to that, or the cornyness of it, then there is no point trying to explain, so you can attempt to find it funny.

Hopefully this has cleared your misconception of me and my initial post, and excuse me for trying to find the funny side of an all praising, all glorifying thread. I'll perhaps keep my sarcastic threads to myself and perhaps tempt you with some knock, knock jokes that i'm sure you'll find hilarious.

Thanks JJ.

Seems everyone else is wrong when they don't agree with you Dug, yet you're never wrong?

Dug - maybe the news articles of babies that have died in cars whilst their parents are gambling present your original post in bad taste.

Can hardly have a go at someone for thinking that.

hahahaha as if NevahJJ actually put the time and effort to make this topic

talk about taking things too serious, its a public forum and you can post anything u like, in bad taste or not, as if someone wanted him banned from the site

Thanks for responding Dug, I do appreciate you taking the time.
Your answer is obviously well thought out and shows a high level of intelligence.

NOW THAT IS SARCASM!!!!

When infact what I really wanted to say was... I asked you in simple terms to explain the humour behind you saying
1. That your a bloke called Tim that locks his 8 month old kid in the car.
2. You spend kids food money on Poker.

Again, the humour elludes me and as I have said, I have a very broad sense of humour.

Lets be honest about one thing, Sarcasm is the LOWEST form of witt.
It takes absolutely NO effort, I am thinking maybe why this is your chosen form of humour.

Dug wrote:Hopefully this has cleared your misconception of me and my initial post, and excuse me for trying to find the funny side of an all praising, all glorifying thread.

Nahh, frankly from posts I have read in the past, I thought you were a tool and have pretty much stuck to that assumption.

Your obviously all man and able to take crap thrown your way. If not, you certainly shouldn't be dealing it out! As it stands now, I have not seen someone that can take the crap that is dished back to them, I have seen a mean spirited person that relies on belittling others to make them feel more manly.

Dug wrote:I'll perhaps keep my sarcastic threads to myself and perhaps tempt you with some knock, knock jokes that i'm sure you'll find hilarious.

Never underestimate the humour behind a damn good knock knock joke. They sure beat the shit out of finding humour in kids being locked in cars and dying while parents play pokies.

Post anything you like.
I for one will post that I think your very much a puppet Steve.

Laugh all you want, I frankly don't put much stock into anything you have to say or anything you find funny.

That someone would be me.

Its a public forum, yes, but that doesn't give everyone the right to post "whatever they want." Free speech and all, everyone is free to post, but there should be limits to what can and cannot be posted.

I myself considered posting something akin to Dug's post the other day (although not in the same vein) after reading all the topics and posts about State Finals. Most of the posts were of a congratulatory manner, from NPL staff, on their great work at State Finals (which was great). But then, a few days after State Finals were over... it got a bit much. Ok guys, we get it, you did a great job...

In the end I didn't post anything because it would've been in bad taste - and I've done confrontation on the forums before :) I guess what I'm trying to say here is that I could see his point. But there are easier ways to go about it.

And as a former forum Administrator, I can tell you that getting banned from a forum happens every day - don't think the admins/mods don't have any right, or "aren't allowed to because its a public forum." We don't control the site, they do. We're here under their rules.

Edit: On further thought, I should probably add this - because while I know what I was saying, reading this, no one else well (cheers for that Bob) - unless I add it now.

I didn't want Dug banned. I was just wondering out loud if it could be done. Personally, I think he should've been issued a warning for his post, and if he offends again, he should be banned.

Anyway.

Who's looking forward to Berri? :D

If situations warrant it Aaron, as you know from your own experiences on other forums, they are dealt with in a private manner. To be honest, I found nothing funny in the original post - sarcasm only works when it's carried out correctly.

There really was no need for this thread either - if you have an issue with a particular forum member, take it to the PM's; whether addressing them directly or contacting one of the moderators. No need to run a topic in the public section.

Berri? cannot ****ing wait :D
