Crows Tavern: Wed 10/10/07 - 9th
Another final table... another dead deck!!
Wish I could hit some cards late in a tourney, not early! Made the points 5 out of 6 times this season. Final table 4 out of those 5 times. Keep coming in as the short stack. Best place: 5th!
Least I'm building points I guess.

Can't be complaining with constant points and final tables! I've only placed in 3/5 games and only one of those with a final table that I was lucky to make. Drawing small blind and then just having enough to stay in after I folded that and got the button

Hi Des,
Where you end up finishing reflects your style of play. I'd say your very tight aggressive, or even tight passive.
You want a win? Here's a few suggestions.
Tight aggressive play for the first four blind levels.
Then open up your game and play your position more. Raising on the button with marginal hands (suited connectors, any paint, etc...)
Stop calling peoples raises, put them on a hand and decide whether you want to test them. Your better off folding than calling a raise. If you are looking to play raise or push all in.
You have to gamble more towards the later stages of a tournament with an aggressive blind structure.
As we get closer to the points the majority of people are unwilling to risk their chips stacks. Pick these players and play against them, if it's an easy blind take it down.
In saying those things Final table is much different. Pick your spots with a short stack. If you are the shortest stack it should be a case of any Ace all in. Or any pocket pair. If you are later in the hand yo might be better off waiting for a few more players to remove themselves from the game. Then when it is down to 6 handed, start pushing again with any pocket paint, any ace, suited connectors.
With any tournament a fair supply of luck is required. Always know that you are going to need to get lucky several times in a tournament to win. That's why you gotta gamble sometimes. Push it all in and hope the poker gods are on your side for once.
But in saying all of the above. Your strike rate for final table points is phenomenal. Keep it up and you'll be top of the State Leaderboard (or very close to it) in no time!

Not lately, no final table in 2 weeks. Meh. Q6 is better than AQ

Hrmm, I've placed 6/10 games this season, final table 5 of those places. Highest i've finished is 2nd >;\
Decent tip there from Garth though, I play tight agressive all the time. After the 2nd break when it gets real interesting, I play hardly any hands unless i've got something decent, and always end up on the final table with <10k in chips, when the blinds are usually 5k/10k, it leaves me with little to do on the final table.
Think i'll start playing a few more hands after the 2nd break and see how we go.

Thanks for that post Garth, now everyone's poker IQ just doubled

Hmm just had an idea.... TD vs Player tourney.
2 table tourney, 9 normal players vs 9 td's.

No Offense Des. But players would get smashed!
LOL
You put your best nine together and I will put my nine together. Teams event!
Some of us are semi pro. So we will handicap it.

I'm going to give Garth and Nathan the benefit and assume they've been stuffing about when I've played against them

Teams event sounds AWESOME
