How can you remove a person from a tourney or refuse entry when the chip up system encourages people to drink more than usual.
NPL cant control the stamp values so a person can drink 8 pints in an hour to card up at some venues. Yet by doing this that person could now be drunk and not welcome to play
Sorry you cant have it both ways
The NPL either sets a stamp system or changes the system
If someone leaves a venue and gets pulled over and is over the limit who is to blame
The Venue or the NPL as both parties have encouraged that person to drink
A good solicitor would have a field day

Re: Playing drunk but whos at falt
You do have a good point goose, maybe it would be a good idea to encourage the venues to offer a non-alcohol alternative that's of same/similar value stamp wise?
A lot of venues now are cottoning on to the whole meals = at least 3 stamps thing, and that's awesome. So that's one way of not boozing it up.
Currently you don't HAVE to drink alcohol at most if not all venues, but I bet it's a damn sight cheaper (with less trips to the loo) than just drinking coke all night.
So yep, a little more could probably be done by the venues.

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

I was going to post something similar.
Although, technically, you have spend money at a venue, not necessarily on achohol. You could buy a meal, have a coke or something. Maybe one drink? A meal and a coke would be 5 stamps at a few places. Add one or two beers, another coke... ?
In saying that, there are people who are "tipsy" and having "fun" after 2 stamps worth of drinking but there are people who are obviously very drunk - to the point they are falling over. They are the people we wantt o keep out!

It's up to the venues to promote responsible drinking.
The NPL's stamp system can be used for meals and soft drink so its not encouraging excess alcohol consuption.
What I don't get is, the profit margin is greater on a pint of soft drink than a beer anyway. It costs about 10c to make in raw materials and maybe 10c for staff to serve it to you, and they sell it for $3.00.
I've seen players amny times buy 4 lemon squashes to get stamps and then just leave them at the bar.
What venues need to come up with in conjunction with the NPL is a pre-paid card system where the player can purchase a card for say $12 pre-stamped and then get drinks redeemed with the card later.
But as for players being drunk, it happens in any pub sport, think darts, 8-ball, Quiz nights, karaoke, ect. Who's to blame there?
Everyone's always looking to place the blame somewhere else when they have no control over themselves. Besides, I've seen two players take down tournaments so-drunk they can hardly hold their cards. One tournament had 74 runners and the other 77 and the drunk player on each occasion took out every other player on the final table! As long as they are not being abusive, then i think it shouldn't matter, and if they are, its their fault and they should be removed from the premises as they would be in any other circumstance.

Hey All,
This is a good point and has already been brought up by the NPL staff and with our venue's, We are in talk's with some venue's about this. Iam currently talking with som of the southern venue's about offering Designated driver promotion's and and trying to get some pre paid voucher's up and running. But in the end guy's and girl's it's up to you to controll and watch what you drink. We the staff of NPL promote Responsible service of alcohol thats why every player only get's 2 Poker passports per night, I cant tell you how many times i have had players ask me if they can have more Passports. We will have to see what else we can do on this subject.

Most places I've seen you can get 2 stamps for a pint of light.

No Such luck.
Here at the NPL We encourge you to support the venues that help bring free poker to SA. I played at the Parafeild Gardens on Wednesday this week and Easily filled my two cards with out getting intoxicated (although i can imagine most people thinking i was drunk or atleast a couple of cents short of a dollar)
I got my stamps cards filled becuase i had a meal. Some of the NPL venues offer great meals. At Parafield i had 400g Rump Steak and and two Jack premix cans. One drink during dinner and the other drink when the game started. During the break i had a Beer but i had already filled my cards.
Less drinking more meals!!!! the Food and Parafield was great value and excellent qualilty. I spent small amount for a good night out.
Well done to tim for running an excellent event. Ill be filling those shoe this coming Wednesday (gulp)

Re: Playing drunk but whos at falt
I think I have kicked out about 4 for being overly drunk since working for NPL, and as far as i can remember these have all occured well into the tourny, 1000-2000 blind levels where the drink cards become useless, these few people get a 'good buzz' and continue to drink and thats when they become a problem.
I do not see any problems with the drinks cards and with the re-buy / addon features for the new season, I don't see a need to change for years to come, they work great!
Cheers,

Re: Playing drunk but whos at falt
I really like the idea of buying a pre-paid drink card to stamp up with. The pubs won't loose any money..... if anything they could gain because some players may not bother to use all of the drink card.
Also, if you play three or four tournaments a week, that's a hell of a lot of pub meals. Not really a good thing.

Re: Playing drunk but whos at falt
Poker, even freerole can be a tad stressful at times especially to a degree of seriousness. I like to relax on a friday night with afew bears with some friends and play some poker. Sure i get abit tispy, i may not shuffle aswell as i could and my calls and raises may be abit obscure but in the end im doing no harm and im having fun.
If someone is extremly drunk (filling up two cards between friends shouldnt do this) ask to get moved or just joke around with them, ignore some comments because theyre drunk remember.
