from what people have told me, the ban was totally justified.

no matter what someone calls you on or off the poker table, going and smashing them out the back is not the way to go about it.

i understand the agressor in this instance was reacting to a comment that he himself used to describe the other player in an earlier week.

so there was a bit of back and forth, obviously not friendly, but still words.

Fair enough benny the cunt. As I said it was more of a shock to hear what happened and also knowing the person in question.

I suppose it all comes back to another post on here that relates to "TRASH TALKING". Unfortunately someone went too far and in this case the sniping didn't stay at the table.

I'm surprised the other person wasn't also penalised by NPL in some way or was he????

SO, did we learn anything from the final outcome??????

Unfortunately not everyone reads NPLSA nor do they go to the G&B venues. The grape vine stories can be like a chinese whispers when it gets back to the original starting point it will be a totally different story.

Might I suggest that the powers to be send an Email to all NPL members, saying something like the following:

"TRASH TALKING" doesn't always stay on the table.

A recent altercation (fight) between two NPL members left the NPL management with no choice but to deal with this type of situation by way of a "LIFE TIME BAN" from "ALL NPL" related functions.

NPL does not and will not condone any form of physical violence related to any NPL function and offenders will not be tollerated.

What do you or any one else think?

When i heard about the incident and the ban i thought TOO TOUGH.

But after getting feedback from a private game on Friday night, that the suspended player attended, this person was lucky to escape with a stern glare.
At this home game event He was very lucky not to have gotten more than what he bargained for from 2 players who showed respect for the host and kept the peace.
It seems a little achievment has gone to this persons head, as he thinks he is better than everyone else and is arrogant enought to let other players know this by belittling them.

He was very lucky i was too sick to attend as i would have removed him from the home game event and shown him some manners the old fashion way outside.

After the feedback i received the ban was well overdue as i was told it was a fantastic well organised night except for the one person.

makes me wanna congratulate people like paul who won the season 1 finals.

i dont really know him personally, only on the poker table, but he seems like a nice bloke - not a legend in his own lunch box like a lot of unnamed players.

Yes! Exactly benny the cunt. I don't know Paul personally either, but in all my experiences with him he's always been a nice, welcoming fellow.

I've found that most players that have done well are very humble, and modest (Russel, Darrel, etc).

I would like to add that it is not just several players. I will make a more formal announcement on this later next week. The player in question is a friend of mine and someone I enjoy playing poker with, it was not enjoyable for me to suspend him from playing.
But currently in SA there is a culture growing amongst players of belittling other players. Because they see it on TV in the form of Matusow or Hellmuth they think it is ok to conduct themselves in this manner at NPL tournaments. This growth of this culture has now become worrisome to senior staff and management, the use of the word D.o.n.k.ey and other derogatory comments are becoming current day nomenclature in SA's poker playing fraternity.
Over the next season we will be implementing new rules and guidelines to cut down on behaviour of this type and there will be penalties handed out for inappropriate behaviour or comments.
We wish to stamp out this culture that is growing amongst a small minority of players, and as a senior manager of NPL I also take partial responsibility for this development in the competition.

It's not unusual for a player to be eliminated at a final table, nor, unfortunately, is it unusual for a player to display unsportsmanlike behavior. It is, however, unusual for a player to be ousted from the final table for bad conduct, but that is what happened at the first of several preliminary WSOP Circuit events at Caesars Atlantic City. In what Nolan Dalla, WSOP Media Director, called one of the "oddest and awkward moments in tournament history," chip leader Lesley S. Thornburg was disqualified in fifth place for unruly behavior.

According to reports, the boisterous Thornburg had received two warnings for unsportsmanlike conduct during the previous day's play. Thornburg started the final table second in chips and began what was described as an hours-long and "ceaseless display of loud comments and baiting tactics." Thornburg was able to gain an appreciable lead when his A-7 bested an A-Q and his pocket fours took out pocket sevens. Thornburg received a number of warnings at the final table, primarily associated with his apparent unwillingness to stack his chips and a penchant by randomly and recklessly shoving chips into the pot. Unable to deter Thornburg's behavior with warnings, the tournament director finally disqualified him and removed his chips from play. Thornburg's disqualification netted him a fifth-place finish. 76-year-old retiree Frank Panetta went on to win the $300 NLHE event.

Good to see that it is being cracked down on in other events.

Good to see someone who can stand up to players. Regardless of the titles associated with the event.

How many warnings does a player need? He got 2 the day before, and numerous at the final table. He didn't improve. the TD obviously followed through with his decision.

In my opinion, there are a lot of players out there, that think these kinds of antics are ok. A lot of people have forgotten that in poker, respect is given not gained through play.

How you respect the game is how people will respect you.
