I really don't think the NPL can tell a venue how much to charge for minimum stamps!
Is this to be read as you don't have an issue with venues stamping up staff/regulars in any way they choose?

This thread has become a little confused. There are too distinct issues here, stamping staff, and stamping regulars. I personally think the stamping staff is a complete non-issue. It doesn't distort the tourney in any way, shape or form as those chip ups are available to anyone.

Stamping of regulars on first purchase, whilst it could be off putting to new patrons, those same patrons are entirely at their discretion to find other venues where they feel valued.

There was a thread I started a while back regarding the idea of a designated drive program - it had some support from some people on here, but I think the general consensus was that it was too hard, and no one could really see NPL coming up with a workable solution. I'd still like to see one however :D

Perhaps we could have Wendy's hotdogs at Berri next year - then we all win!

I agree with you Rcon.

I don't believe stamping staff up for free effects the tournaments in anyway but I do understand for those who spend it may seem like unfair treatment. I see the point about regulars too, i always encourage my venues to be prudent with stamps, generous with their value but also tough enough to make sure people acquire them legitimately. There isn't really much more we can do than that. True to your statement, "player some where you're appreciated", if you play enough times at any one particular venue (always being pleasant and having fun) I'm sure almost anyone could pick up the acclaimed "regular" status.

The DD program idea kicked around the forum unfortunately didn't pick up any momentum. Would be good to see one in place but then again, just like stamp policy it is up to the venues to create and offer...

if you are the dessy, than i think its is just hard luck - if you are not buying meals, you are restricting the profits of the venue by not drinking, which is obviously not in their interests.

or even better, make sure that your mates who u are gonna drive home pitch in and get your cards stamped up as well, so u dont have to drink 8 softies

actually, i think it is pretty rude if your friends don't give you stamps if you are kind enough to not drink and take them home

alternatively, some places give 2 stamps for a pint of soft drink - might be best to seek these places out.

or just say to the venue, look, i am dessy tonight, can i get 2 stamps for a pint of softie? cant hurt but ask

The whole DD issue would be completely solved if venues could be encouraged to give 2 stamps for a pint of soft drink. That means the DD has to buy 4 pints of softie, not a big ask, venue still makes cash - probably more because players would most likely get that extra couple of stamps for their second card. Its a win-win.

A venue in my region (Renmark Sporting Club) has this policy, and it keeps my driving the 45 minutes from waikerie semi-regularly to play there on a sunday afternoon. If i had to either drink 4 pints/stubbies of beer, or only get one card stamped i simply wouldn't go.

If other venues took up this policy then this whole problem would be solved. And i think its been mentioned before, and im not sure on actual figures, but how much does a venue make in profit on a pint of coke compared to a pint of beer? My feeling is that they would be pretty similar.

Just on a side note of staff playing at their venues of work, I just want to point out, I know of two staff members who do NOT get preferential treatment. They purchase drinks just as the players do and get stamped up relative to their purchase.

So I do not believe this practice is rife throughout NPL venues or at least it is not the case out here in the Sowf.

I also want to point out that we also have at least two venues that give 2 stamps per can of soft drink purchased. They do so because they know the unfairness shown towards non-drinkers (at times).
So having said that, I always purchase 4 cans, 3 of which I can take home for later.
Because they do, they know they will have my continued support at their venue for meals and drinks at non poker times.

I can't see why other venues cannot adopt this policy.

Maybe it is up to us to write to venues asking for this to be put in place and also to explain our reasons for asking to do so?
I don't think this is asking for "charity", or maybe it is in some opinions?

Not charity at all - so long as you aren't asking for a "free lunch", I'm sure the business you approach will listen :D The only issues some business might have with it is the additional overheads keeping track of who is who and who deserves what. Some business may also not particularly care. In which case, you are enteirly at your own discretion able to stop supporting said venue.

Just because I venue choses to associate with NPL, doesn't mean they deserve our unconditional support. Most venues I've cared enough about to speak with management have welcomed feedback - make yourself heard Caroline!

Has become quite muddled hasn't it? No matter. The continued discussion is good regardless.
