It greatly offends me that this thread even exists.
Why the hell shouldn't NPL have the right to decide and change the numbers of participants for this event or for any other?
Of course the Riverland people are not going to pay to stay at the resort, especially if they live within a short drive of the Hotel and why should they????? They no doubt pay their dues when they come into the city areas for finals and other events held by NPL.
It technically costs us players NOTHING to play at any venue!
We CHOOSE to pay for drinks and food so as to stamp up, but in reality, we can still go and sit at an NPL poker table and not pay a red cent.
As with this event being run at Berri then quite frankly we owe it to NPL as an organisation to support it and this means supporting the venue hosting this tournament.
I don't dispute that maybe the price for rooms Garth quoted in the announcement of this event was incorrect, but pull your heads in. It was an error that has been fixed.
I admit I would love to attend!! But honestly I can't afford it and would not for one minute look for cheaper accomodation, that is not in the spirit of 'supporting the venue that supports the players'.
I really believe that unless you have something constructive to say, you need to pull your head in and not bother attending.
No one person is so damn good that they ARE NPL!!!!!! as is implied many times by their posts.

Garth Kay wrote:After bandying it around head office and due to the fact that a few people seem to think I am been sneaky and using scare tactics we have now stopped taking entrants until Berri gets back to me with a definitive numbers staying at the resort.
I find it very disappointing that I now have to turn players away from this event.
I was really not expecting this sort of response, my first initial thought was we would be lucky to get 300 runners with the time, travel and costs involved.
I actually only have 100 people that have notified me personally of their intent to play but if we say the Berri Resort has 72 rooms at an average of 2.35 per room, that equals almost 170 runners. I have almost 40 people from the riverland who have notified me so we will say right now we have almost 220 confirmed runners.
I also have another fifty who have notified me that they will be staying with family in the region so that equals 270 runners.
Until I have definitive data that are the numbers I have.
Garth, as you are aware I am not one to suck up or kiss butt. So having said that, most people realised you were committed to selling an idea to not only the venue people but also us the punters and you did it well.
I for one would have loved to have stayed at the venue and had a garanteed seat but as per my previous posts and reasons I chose to take a chance on alternative lodgings.
So, for myself and others we are grateful that the options have been extended somewhat and I for one will enjoy the weekend away with the missus no matter what.
And for you Couger. Well, I really hope you are proud of yourself. You have in one totally negative post managed to not only piss off NPL management but also people such as myself.
And from what Garth is saying you haven't even registered an interest to play so why all the negatives ??????????

Re: BERRI- CYNIC WITH THE EMPHASIS ON SIN
I booked into the Berri Resort and the Event early. I don't have a problem paying $145 and look forward to a week-end away, something I haven't done for a few years.
One of the appeals of this tournament was the numbers (being 300) It gave it a bit of 'exclusivness' to it I liked and I must admit, I was a bit dissappointed when I read it had been increased.
I think that if you make something a little bit exclusive, it creates more interest and the event would probably last many years, but if you make it too easy to get into, it could lose this and be a one or two hit wonder. Supply and demand theory.
Also, it gives the players who qualify for the State Finals more opportunity to get into, and then it could end up simply another form of State Final event. I would imagine a few of the Top 50 may take longer to decide if they want to go, as they would miss out on a few of their regular games.
If anyone wanted to go, then at the very least they should have registered their names for the event by now.
I will go with the flow and am very happy that there is an event like this offered........ just expressing a few of my thoughts which I hope are given some consideration.

Re: BERRI- CYNIC WITH THE EMPHASIS ON SIN
I have no problem with the size of the field increasing. The more, the merrier.
And in regards to a possible reduction in starting stacks ... this is a 2 day event, poeple. You can't have the tournament running into the wee hours of Monday morning, or worse, recommencing on Monday morning. Sure, one of the attractions for me too was the size of the start bank. Hell, I started the poll on who wanted to see a 2 day, deep stack poker extravaganza.
But regardless of whether I sit down on the 28th of June with 10k, 15k or 20k in front of me, I'll be one happy fella.

Cougar - As everyone is entitled to their own opinion, from this moment on i intend to ignore your posts unless i find that they are directly related to any CBD events or CBD staff. I find it remarkable that you still contribute to the forum even after you requested all your posts be removed. You seem to attack almost everything we aim to do debating many topics like you are 90% of our client/customer base.
Everyone else - No matter what, The Berri Event is going to be a sensation. It would be a dream event to play let alone win. The efforts and motives behind running such an event are all in ernest as the NPL take pride in being the BEST DAMN LEAGUE in this country.
Cougar,
There has been an overwhelming amount of support for what we are trying to achieve. The spanner you have thrown into the works is nothing. You personally may think we are a money hungry evil empire conspiring to brain wash our members out of their weekly pay but simply, we are not.
I personally (i hope) will be running the Berri Event. I wish everyone could come but this is not a perfect world.
The Hotel only has X amount of room.
The hotel only has X amount of seats.
The NPL can only provide X amount of staff.
The Hotel does need to return on this investment.
The NPL will do the best we can to ensure the largest possible field plays and as many members as possible be apart of the experience.
Maybe I have tunnel vision because I am not a customer. Maybe I see things differently because I look to make things work rather then destroy them. Either, either..... if the out come of this event execution is altered in any way by your malicious comments, Shame on you.
Regards
Nathan Butler

Re: BERRI- CYNIC WITH THE EMPHASIS ON SIN
I payed at Berri last night (I was lucky to make bad beat table and failed again)
A quick chat to Simmo asked how the room bookings were going he said Resort/hotel full booked, they were now redirecting the bookings to the golf club.
So now the ball bashers can book there get a quick 9 holes in in the morning then off to the deep stack, how spoilt could you get.
I am also pi$$ed about the amount of negative comments that have bandied around, take a chill pill and get over it. Look to the postitives of playing such an event, how many of you will get such an opportunity to play a big stack freeroll.
Personally I would extend my gratitude to Garth, his NPL team and the Berri Resort Hotel for facilitating an magnificent event outside Adelaide.
I feel Simmo and his crew will have some extra incentives for us for the weekend.
What a lead up to the big event
14 days to the riverland final( if I play well next week to hold my spot in the Top 5 ( sitting 3rd )
29 days to the state final
41 days to Deepstack

I reckon I'm sick of reading about it.
By all means people, ask questions. Paul, get over yourself.
**edit**
AND... my fricken toast went cold reading all of that! NOT HAPPY!

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!
