Sounds good enough as it is, mate.

Besides, like you and Garth said, this hasn't even been approved yet, bit hard to suggest improvements if we haven't had the chance to experience it. Trial and error, that sort of thing.

Exactly what was trying to be done with the teams event... everyone is still working out what works and what doesn't work.

As for idea's... not really sure.. brice's comment about restricting it to 4 venues for qualification is valid as people may be forced to miss their regular game to qualify.

Could have a week of 3 weeks (20 days) of qualifications, picking 1 venue per night so that each venue gets a chance?

I dunno, out of ideas at the moment.

Initial Impressions
if 1st and 2nd want to split, do it like the Final tables online. There must be 300 to be played out for the winner. E.g. Player 1 and 2, want to split it. Get 350 each, winner gets the extra 300.

Thinking small amount of players with such a large stack is a little excessive. 20k with blinds of?? Even @ 20 mins following normal NPL structure will take at least 4 hours barring any super shocking plays.

Sit N gos, you said blinds go up when someone is knocked out? If 4 people are knocked out in the first hand is that still one blind up or 4 blinds up

Sit n Go's max amount of tables you are putting on? Or going to start one round, play it out, once all have finished, start another round? Or once one table has broken, start a new sit n go?

Qualification.
This would require a PM answer. But what is your aim for the venues that are participating? More players @ the venues? More Players in the region? Do you also have a spare day where this promotion won't affect the player numbers at another venue? Or is is to increase player spend?

Would need clarification before i would change qualification methods. If it is a pure tournament of champions. Why not do winner from the 5 venues. And what happens if a person wins twice? Who do you put in, or do you take a seat away?

Sounds like a good idea though Dakota. But just fill in the gaps, so we have a little bit more information.

Brett.

Thanks Brett for the massive input, very much appreciated. i don't know how to quote other peoples threads as yet so here goes.
The main reason why i'm limiting the number of venues to five, is because i want to build the numbers at these venues. It will be at the start of th season, and most people will continue to play at the venues at which they start the season at, so effectively no-one will miss out on going to their usual venue, because hopefully those venues will be the ones that they will continue to go to.

Secondly, i am trying to get the venues to fund this event, and not every venue will be prepared to fork out the money. Also, there will only be 2 venues that is likely to take away players from other venues on that particular day. the other 3 venues are effectively stand alone venues on that day, in that timeslot.
hopefully that answers brices concerns.
Yeah maybe the 20K starting stack is going to be a little bit too much, prehaps mayb 15K would be better. But i would still like to have the tourni run for at least 4 hours, for the venue side of things.
In terms of the sit and gos mayb look at increasing the blinds every 15 mins, because in the senario u set out brett it may not work as effectively if 4 people do get knocked out in 1 hand. so def timed blinds. i would like the side games to run continuously, so i guess as soon as 1 table finishes another 1 starts.
Unfortunately, the venue that i envisaged hosting the main event has talked about doing something big on a Sunday Afternoon, which will affect 2 other venues in that timeslot, in the region. prehaps asking them to start the game a little bit earlier will help. maybe a 10 or 11am start.
If some1 wins twice, i'd be happy for them to transfer their extra seat to another player.

keep the ideas and suggestions coming people.

This sounds like a good idea...for the folks up in the north.
I guess you guys up there are smarter than it appears by having a champion tourney that excludes the best players in the state who happen to live in the south. Not bad.

This is a Dakota initiative for his region. Not for the entire state.
If people don't play in his region, why should they have the chance to play in this tournament?

If you want something similar in the South, my advice is ask your local TD and get them to pass on a message.

Brett.

The rest of this thread is going to reserved for constructive posts about this initiative. No hijacks, no waving hello's, no saying i will be in it. We sre are trying to formulate the best plan of attack to make this a good idea.

Therefore we need input from players about how they would like to see it being run. Have to remember this is to help increase player numbers at certain venues. secondary is the fact that if the venue's are going to be paying for it, they need an improved spend.

Dakota,

My advice is maybe go from nightly winner. And to keep more players into the venues and create more chances. Is to have the final table, one person will qualify from that. And also have a wild card, where once the final table is seated, draw out 8 or 10 names (depending on what tables you have at the venue 8 or 10 seaters), and have them play off for a spot at the tournament.

Also the person that gets the most points from the 5 venues in the week also qualifies.

Therefore 24 goes to 48 (20 tournament winners, 4 staff, 20 wild cards, 4 weekly points winner). Start bank goes from 20k to 10k. Blinds 20 minutes in length, will give you the longer game time you are after.

With the sit n go's @$50. Might be an idea to invest in some of those timer dealer buttons, to help with the blind structure. Or to do the old school method of the rotation around the table then the blinds go up. E.g. 8 people, one rotation of 8 then blinds go up. Just means players have to keep track - hard to police though.

As a Norferner, I am pretty keen on this. My thoughts:

If the events are on different nights, the same 80+ runners will turn up to them. So you are competing against the same players all the time. The reason I switch between regions is to try my play against different people. Or are you hoping to get people from other regions to play in your region?

If you want to raise patronage at different venues, you need to make that venue more attractive: for example - What benefits am I getting between choosing Cavan tonight over Para Hills?? Para Hills has bigger numbers, so winning gets more points. Or are these North, and you are talking NE, being Alma/Windsor/Payneham... I'm not fully versed with the regions.

On the wildcard.. How are people who have qualified for the final table gonna feel when the 9th player on has already been drawn back, and then they go on to win it? What if the Wildcard position was drawn from the night, and you have to be there to win it your ticket, then each Wildcard player plays off the day before the event to win into the main one... sort of like a Satellite.

What if, for these events, the cards available were unlimited rebuys, but you can only add-on 1 card at the break? People could spend as much as they liked, going all in and still playing before the break, hoping for that big win to chip them up.. More chips = longer games = more people around = most spend.
I'm not perfect. I'm what perfect aspires to become

Hi Dakota, great idea great incentive.

My advice is going to be as short as I am able to make it.

K I S S

Keep It Simple Stupid M8

Select your 5 venues as you see fit to encourage a better turnout and awareness over the time period you feel fits the purpose best.

Stick with your initial plan of winners only from those venues and they play for the major prize on offer.

Have an open tourney for the rest of the Punters with a minor prize.

And please DON'T, give anyone from the also rans a free ride into the major event.

My thoughts are if they didn't earn it by winning a venue why should they be rewarded.

I strongly advise you still use the flight cards system for all entrants to gain additional cash and obviously put money back into the venue.

And again, please keep it simple!

Advise the particular venue operator to allow $3.00 per stamp and advise their staff to show some flexability when stamping.

The stamps are there to encourage people to spend not start them whinging.

That's about my lot Dakota, I hope it's of some help to you.

See you tonite as I'm really hanging out for my hard earned sweets at the Hills, unless you and Mark want to double up LOL.
Remember, It takes 8 muscles to smile :D and 40 to frown :(
