Hi Guys,

There are many reasons why the format is the way it is at the Arkaba and why we have decided on a one day event this time. I won't go into details but it was a commerical decision and the correct one that FHG had to make at the time. We are restricted from running too many side events at the Arkaba simply due to the size of the venue, we are also restricted from hosting any tournament with a buy in elemnet from this group of hotels.

Moving forward there we will discuss the possible Semi Final event structures and decide on the best possible outcome. I am hesitant to run a 2 day Semi Final tournament simply because, it may be the tournament you would like to play, but for the majority of players out there actually having to organise two days off for poker every quarter would be very difficult.

Secondly the Challenge Semi Final has been scrapped as it was not a worthwhile investment, at $15,000 and the attendance to qualification ratio was just way too low. So we have decided to create one larger Semi Final and use the additional funds for set promotions or create special one off events, either during the season or at the finals weekend, that have some nice GTD or Added prizes to the prize pool.

I hope that clears up a bit of a confusion.

As to the flight system - it will be ran as we have always ran these, majority of metro qualifiers in flight 1 and regional qualifiers and top 50 in flight 2. During the flight break we will try to keep players entertained with possible sit n go's o fill in tournaments.

Trust us when we say we hate running a flight systems for finals as well, there is so much more work involved and the organisational skills required are phenomenal when you need to stay on top of everything.

AJG,

All the points you have raised for discussion have been discussed in some very fine detail in past threads, I just can't be bothered to search for them right now. But when I have the time I will point you in the right direction.

Hope this doesn't come across the wrong way, but if thats the case, why hold it at this venue to begin with?? Numerous other venues have done a fantastic job in the past of accommodating large crowds in both the main and side events.

(thinking out loud but the move into footy season might have hindered running an event at the Port Club or WAFC, but im sure these places have had events in footy season before, hmmm)

Read the first paragraph again, the decision was a commercial one. I won't go into more details than that. And to be quite honest I have never had an issue with the Arkaba staff or the venue not able to host one of our premium events and deliver on the standards of excellence we set.

I kind of like the atmosphere the Ark creates with it's round closed in feel about it.

Sorry garth i certainly wasn't meant to be bagging the arkaba, in fact the AM satellite event held there way back when was one of my favourite events ever. excellent venue.

I probably mixed up the chain of events.

Instead of 'lets hold it at the arkaba, oh crap now we have to have flights and no side events' im guessing it was 'lets not do the side events and make it a one day event this season, ok now we can find a venue'

i understand it now.

Actually, I liked the Gully for spectators (maybe because I was playing) - gave it a GREAT feel!
