Re: Countdown to State Finals
After running that state finals and the length of time on site, we decided that $4,000 was probably too much.
All State Finals will now run with a 3K start stack.
That's more than ample to start off with I believe.
And with that start stack that still leaves 1.8 million in chips on the final table.
Anyway I will see you all this weekend.

Antes are awesome!
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

They move the tournament along and nothing is more annoying than the grind of the first few levels of play.
That they are

Now that would be awesome.
Give me a deepstack any day

You also forget to mention the additional blinds included in the structure.
That I did, woops.

Hmm... 4k starting stack and you've got a deal
But seriously... I get that NPL staff have to do a LONG day. And with the huge amount of runners, it is going to be hard to satisfy everyone. Perhaps, as discussed earlier in the year, less runners at States could allow for bigger starting stacks and easier blinds?

Re: Countdown to State Finals
I have no issue at all with a 3K start bank and twenty minute levels. Some people have said in the past that, for them to play "proper poker", they require more chips to begin with, and more time to do something with them.
I believe that the structure in place, which is already more relaxed than the standard events, allows for exactly that - you must be thinking (hopefully) analytically about every pot you enter and are making the tough decisions that define "proper poker".

Completely agree Scott.
Having more chances to get lucky from bad play isn't a reason to start with more chips
3k is plenty.

Re: Countdown to State Finals
well realistically, most people I have played against during a regular tourney are just using their 1k starting stacks and hope to chip up without use of their card.
A 3k stack at states is effectively them chipped up - so they have the opportunity to play properly with a bigger stack then they are likely used to at the beginning of a tourney, and assuming the general idea will be to be sensible since there are no buy-ins and cash at stake, surely it would not matter what the starting stack is.
Realistically, it if people wanted to argue about starting stacks - most players keep card no.2 until the break so only have 2k. maybe a 2k starting stack for states is in order - it's still 40 BB's
