There needs to be free poker.

The NPL can't run it without charging. They find a place who can pay them to run it.

The places are pubs/clubs. Their main business is alcohol and meals.

The reason there is free poker is because the pubs and clubs want to pay for it.

As much as I feel for designated drivers, and people on pensions, that's just unfortunate. Play poker at home if it's an issue. If you don't drink or eat and don't use cards you can STILL play. Sure, it's harder but that's the way the business has to run.

I don't mean to sound harsh at all, but that's the way it is!

Part of the reason that NPL poker is so popular is because people are getting out of the house, making new friends and socialising.

So playing at home is not really an option for them is it?

Designated drivers and non-drinkers are always going to be hard done by, that is also reality. (Unless they purchase meals).

As I said in my post, why try and fix a system that is currently working?
There really is no way out... Short of completely overhauling every pubs entire menu, drinks and specials menu. (Can you see them doing that for one night a week?)

I was being realistic not trying to run down stamping.

Sorry if it seemed I was.

I think it's great that people are getting out of the house. I think it's great people are being social. That's a great thing about it. No question.

My point is that the NPL NEEDS the pubs and clubs. And the nature of their business (the venues) means that's the services/products they have to sell.

Let's say that the NPL just played tournaments at WENDYS. Wendys are willing to pay money to host them, on the proviso that people will buy a lot of hotdogs and icecream.

If you don't like hotdogs or icecream, or are on a diet, or something like that, it's just bad luck.

Again - you can PLAY FOR FREE. Pete proved last season that even though it's harder, you can still do well, even win a tournament, and MAKE STATE FINALS. In fact, if anyone wants to get better, I'd advise this!

No need to apologise Cazz. I'm just being realistic also :)

I would've thought as a designated driver your passengers would/should be obligated to get your stamps for you since you are doing them a favour?

As far as venue staff stamping up for free, I don't like it, but as long as management are aware that it is happening, it's their issue. If staff are doing it on the sly then I'd consider it highly improper (tantamount to theft). My major gripe is when venue staff stamp up their mates for free. Nothing looks more dodgy to staff & players than when someone registers at 7:28, then sits down with no drink in front of them & holding 2 stamped cards. For the benefit of other players at least make an effort to disguise your fraud.

As I said, as long as venue managers are aware of what is going on, they are in control of the integrity of their events, they pay the price.

ps. I'll TD at Wendy's
