yes, i know, but these venues are the exception rather than the norm

i dont think its unreasonable to have to spend 15 to 20 bucks to get stamped up

1) They don't generate revenue from it
2) It looks bad to other players which means they might not go back.

So I guess while it isn't an issue to NPL and the tournament, it's not a good business practice for the venue.
Yup - you make good points, but it is entirely a venue decision :D

If NPL decided it was such a bad look, I'm sure they would write into the contracts a certain "minimum" spend to get stamped up to ensure consistency across their product. Having been at both end of the issue (regular who gets stamped up AND as a visitor who watches someone get stamped up), I've learnt to ask before I order if I'm unsure, and I would encourage anyone who is to ask. I much prefer to see venues with signs advertising their policy, but you can't have everything

In all honesty, I'm not that much of a fan of the venue stamping up cards for certain people for free, even if they are an employee of that venue. Granted, it is the venue's decision to award stamps as they see fit, I'm just not for it.

The main reason being... are those people that are receiving the stamps eligible to win the same prize that someone who has to pay their $30'ish in order to get stamps?

But if you don't like it then I'm sure that it's not too hard to try and locate another venue that is more suited to your taste. There's enough of them.

The NPL sell themselves as free poker to the venues, and they tell the venues they make money from sales. Sales can get chips, and so they are confident people will buy.

I really don't think the NPL can tell a venue how much to charge for minimum stamps!

I personally believe that stamping is always going to be a contentious issue.

I note often that people do get stamped up, before the game and with only purchasing one alcoholic drink.

HOWEVER!

These people buy drinks all night and often go above and beyond the quantity required to stamp up.
Should we have issues with that also?

Regulars who have supported the venue from the start and will often be there on a weeknight to have a quiet snifter of port on the way home.
Why shouldn't the venue support those people also and provide them with a show of good will?

What about non-drinkers? I have had so many discussions with staff about the fact I have to purchase over 8 soft drinks just to get stamps. Why can't designated drivers be given special stamp ups?

What about those that are already stamped up and often assist those that are not, by giving them their stamps?
Should they be given a hard time for that?

And as a last point, what about those that are on a pension, we have at least two or three of the older type out our way that use poker as a way to get out and socialise. There is no way they can afford to spend $30 a week to get stamped up. They are terribly disadvantaged.

Can you see my point/points?
It is never going to be a fair system for all. There is no such thing.

How can you change a system that already works?
Short of coming up with specials for NPL players at each and every hotel.

If I see someone getting stamped up for just buying one drink, I don't get upset or bothered, I just believe there is a reason for it.

That doesn't stop me wishing it was me that was getting them.. lol

There are two different arguments here

1) should staff be allowed to get free stamps - my answer is of course they should, they work there and shouldn't be made to spend there $20 to get their stamps.

2) that "regulars" be stamped up for free. This one i absaloutely disagree with. Although many venues have regulars who might spend a lot of money there on other nights of the week, the venues are doing themselves a disservice by doing this in my opinion. They are probably preventing themselves from getting many more sometimes patrons to become regulars.

Staff = yes get free stamps
Regulars = pull out ya wallets tight arses

I don't think JJ was suggesting that the regulars get stamped up for free, more that they might get stamped up right away on their first purchase. As she stated, if it's known that they *will* be spending over the bar etc then the venue knows darn well it's not hurting them. It does look dodgy as to a new player though.

Perhaps one point of view that's been overlooked regarding the venue staff is that it's often a selling point in a roundabout kinda way if the manager or whatever is sitting down and playing with you guys. It shows they have an interest for one, and that's severely lacking in some venues. Also, from what I've seen, there tend to be more prizes and such available to the players when this happens... even if it's just a bounty.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!
