Oh wait.....

Get your facts right Pete! refer to your original thread on this for the rest of post as here is not the place.

And my apologies for having something keeping me from knowing the result of the 2009 French Open, and NOT immediately running to the net to find it out!

Are all you little boys having fun, making ridiculous posts laughing at me simply because I made a mistake over a tennis final? Get a life...

code monkey isn't a derogatory comment - it means you are a software person

secondly, matthew has a degree in sport science and is a PE teacher - ample qualifications to talk about sport i am guessing.

learn a bit of humility - a simple oops, my bad would have done. instead you have to come up with some crap excuse as to why you dont know the answer to something.

im throwing Brett Favre in for being the best at his chosen sport. Those with little knowledge of the game will probably not get most of this but he played the majority of his career with the Green Bay packers which is a small town in Wisconsin. Its not the case now but was when Favre played that the stadium attendance was bigger than the towns population.

As the QB he held more responsibility for his teams results than any other positon in any other sport. Add to this that there is one religion in a place like Green Bay and that is football the pressure placed on this mans shoulders was huge.

His career stats are as follows

Favre is the first player to win the AP Most Valuable Player three consecutive times (1995–97)[3]. He led the Packers to seven division championships (1995, 1996, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2007), four NFC Championship Games (1995, 1996, 1997, and 2007), winning two (1996 and 1997), two Super Bowl appearances, winning one (Super Bowl XXXI). He holds a number of NFL records including: most career touchdown passes (464), most career passing yards (65,127), most career pass completions (5,720), most career pass attempts (9,280), most career interceptions thrown (310), most consecutive starts among NFL quarterbacks (269; 291 total starts including playoffs), and most career victories as a starting quarterback (169).[4][5]

lance armstrong is well placed to have another crack at the tour de france

if he wasn't already up there as a great, surely winning this one again would put him up there

(there is talk that contador will be given preference over armstrong as well, now that would be interesting if he had to give it a crack without the full support of his team)

I know nothing about American Football Matty so will take your word for that inclusion.

From the little I do know about Ice Hockey surely Wayne Gretzky is up there, no choice but to agree there.

If Armstrong is indeed drug free (and I see no reason to believe otherwise) then surely he's right up there too. Anyone know if there's other similar events in cycling that he also consistently did well at? We really only seem to hear about the Tour Down Under and the Tour de France.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

according to his wikipedia page, he has won 7 tour de frances, and only 7 other races

that makes interesting reading in itself

i wonder if he had a full schedule of races during that time, or whether he only prepared each year for the tour de france and thats it.

I would've started doing this at win number 4.
