Christ, its going to lessen the quality of the AFL product, they struggle to find enough players for 16 teams, let along 18+ teams!bennymacca wrote:gundog wrote:If anyone thinks that the SANFL wont be affected by the expansion of the AFL is seriously putting there heads in the sand, GC and WS will see 80 to 100 more players needed for the AFL where will they come from SANFL, VFL, TFL and WAFL ( which is already a basket case) also minor state leagues from the other states.
this is a good point. it will lessen the strength of the sanfl.

Re: Port Magpies
completely false gundog, the merger was never about the football departments, only the administration and marketing side. have you actually read the paper?
If you believe that then yep your right, sure we will spin the line "ITS ONLY A MERGER OF THE ADMIN AND MARKETING" but what is the real aim the ultimate aim is to make the power and magies one in a nut shell.
If you think any different why would people from within the crows suggest if the merger went ahead they would push for a side in the SANFL.
Adelaide Now
Mr Pickard will increase his private sponsorship of the AFL-based Port Adelaide Football Club in a deal which will require the Power to buy the Magpies' only major asset, the long-term lease on the Prince of Wales Hotel.
The deal, which could be worth as much as $5 million, would allow the Magpies to clear debt and load up their coffers with as much as $3 million
So that takes care of 2010 and possibily 2011, where to after that.
42.7 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot.

Port Adelaide v Melbourne
Freo v Melbourne
Melbourne v Tigers
All teams I don't care to watch due to complete (hardly, but we're talking relative here) lack of skill.
Even my bombers at times a few years Iago I didn't enjoy watching.
Imagine a competition where you took the few good player from the bottom 6 teams, and slotted them into the top 12 teams, how awesome would that be at the AFL level, and you'd boost local league with a return of the border line player from AFL back to the locals.
If you compare to say the US, the top tier of competition for NFL has what, 30 odd teams? thats one team per 10,000,000 people.
We're trying to have a top tier competition that does not draw heavily on international talents, unlike the US (cash factor) with 1 team per 1,000,000 people.

Re: Port Magpies
My boss who is a mad Port supporter and has had his membership and season tickets since they went on sale late last year, just told me he was going to buy me a 2010 Port membership.
Now I'm not sure what to do here, should I go to my union?
Does he really want me to quit that bad, but just can't bring himself to fire me???
