It was Warnie that had me bowling leggies in the backyard.

But, I love the reaction I get when saying MacGill is better, especially when using random stats to "prove" it. Everyone arcs up, without fail  It's awesome

That particular dismissal, after seeing it, was ridiculous. Granted, there was the super slow mo camera and all but they do umpire it day in, day out. I just stood there with my mouth wide open when I actually saw it. Caught three flies in the four hours I was left dumbstruck as well.

not.

I know. I just wanted an example that worked. Just to show that you can prove anything if you wanted.

(Hey, I can use stats to PROVE MacGill is a better bowler than Warne, but even Blind Freddy knows that ain't true)

8-)

Now that sounds like a good name for a Cricket Umpire

Yep, I agree, it was a shocking decision!! When I made my initial comment that opened up the "umpires are humans" can of worms I hadn't actually seen the dismissal and was just saying that yes sometimes umpires do make mistakes (and they probably made just as many if not more in the past) but these days the bad ones are so magnified by the fact that we get 50 million replays of them in super slo-mo from different angles showing how ludicrous the decision was.

However as shocking as the decision was (and yes Daar should be penalised for his mistake) what I was trying to say initially is that you can NEVER expect umpires, even the best umpires in their chosen sport, to be 100% correct, it is just never going to happen, even using technology to make decisions is never going to be 100% correct, there is always a margin of error. Granted the number of "incorrect" decisions a top level umpire makes should be a few and far between, and should never be as bad as Mr Daar's, as they are paid lots of money to make the "right" decisions the majority of the time. They are paid the big bucks because they make a much higher percentage of "correct" decisions than your average joe bloggs who is getting paid $20 a game down at your local ICA, not because they are 100% correct with every decision.

I do think technology should be used where possible at top level sport so that these types of bad decisions don't happen as sometimes they just don't "even out". This also doesn't mean that every decision will be correct, even technology like hawkeye isn't 100% correct, just because hawkeye says a delivery that has hit someone on the pads was going on to hit the stumps doesn't actually mean it was going to, although the margin for error is much less than Aleem Daars eyes at full speed when it happens!

Anyway, I still can't believe the Aussies lost the test. Apparently Ponting has put the heat on the bowlers but I reckon he also has forgotten about the batters. Sure Lee, Krezja and Siddle only took one wicket each which really isn't good enough but I lost count of the amount of times our batters simply gave their wicket away when they were set and really should have made a ton (or more on that wicket!). They need a little of that Steve Waugh grit, who guarded his wicket with his life, if some of our top and middle order had done that SA would have been chasing a far bigger total and the result may have been different. Anyway, on to the boxing day test, should be a ripper now that we are 1-0 down!

hahahahahahaa u cant be serious des

lets cut Haddin for throwing away his wicket on 94 but yeah we will keep Hayden in the team

what about Brett Lee? on the WACA pitch with extra bounce he can still only manage 1/150, something is wrong and lets not start on Hayden

Seriously steve, what drugs are you on mate.. point out where i said cut haddin? You are just being a tool and trying to make arguments over anything i say.

I said it was disappointing! If he and siddle put on another 50 odd runs, then south africa's confidence would have been rock bottom.

i know u didnt mean cut him

but seriously, how can the one negative u pick out of the game be how dissapointing Haddin threw away his wicket

we were in a perfect position to win the game but we just couldnt bowl them out, both Siddle, Lee and Krejza just could get any wickets, that for me is the dissapointing part
