Without watching the video, if it's only that ball it doesn't tell the whole story. He gets McCullam to sky the first ball of the over exactly the way he planned (and stated prior) and he barely survived. The next ball he was back on strike was the ball he bowled him on.

i definitely wrote them off, im sure 99% people did too - i thought they should have dropped ponting at the end of the new zealand test, but i am really happy for him that he has made the runs now.

interesting thing will be where watson slots in when he returns, because they will want to get him into the middle order somewhere - if marsh doesn't pick his game up, i can see them putting watson in at 3, or even moving ponting back up to 3 to put watson in at 4, and then khawaja and marsh taking over from ponting at 3

And who drops out for Harris & Cummins to come back into the bowling attack?

yeah harris was easily our best bowler in SL and SA but now siddle and pattinson and hilfy have been bowling like guns.

i think i would leave pattinson in there, hilfy prolly has to drop out for harris but its really tough. i have a feeling they wont put cummins back in straight away and might give him another season in shield cricket (provided the rest of the bowlers are in form)

its a good problem to have though, all of a sudden, it has become tough for spots again wheras in SA they were struggling to find someone

Can any of you cricket minded individuals explain to a pleb like me why Clarke would declare there with 7+ sessions left to get 10 wickets in? Why wouldn't he go on to at least the 334 mark, if not the 380+ Aus record?

i would say he is trying to be seen as unselfish - if he is batting on ONLY for personal glory that could be seen as not being right for a captain, although i think he should have batted on to about an hour before the end of the day.

there also seems to be a slight chance of rain, and although slim, it would really suck if they lost some time and allowed india to salvage a draw when anything over 400 seems plenty

Yeah once they have enough runs, which they do now obviously, there is no point and hey may as well give themselves as much time as possible to bowl India out. They may also have bad memories of the famous game in India maybe ten years ago where India made 700 plus in their second dig to win after following on!
