sourpuss was a very good bowler, no question.

SKW is better, no question.

How are you comparing them? Is there even a comparable amount of games played for Australia between the 2? Do you mean both test and one-day? What crack are you smoking? Do you share? WTF?

Everyone would agree that if SKW wasn't about then MacGill would be a shoe-in. The reason he wasn't is because he wasn't as good. He was just plain born at the wrong time.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

I'm only joking about. It was great afternoon fun.

lol, i didn't think any half-educated cricket supporter would seriously suggest that magilla gorilla is better than warne.

Or was saying that you were only joking 'one of your outs on the river' or so to speak??

News just in... Mr Macgill was late to the days play. Pissed off team management and players. Rumours are he may have been drunk. Annouced retirement an hour later.

I think after his behaviour previously he was going to get the sack so to save face he retired.

SCG Macgill

Code: Select all

Mat Inns Balls  Runs  Wkts  BBI   BBM      Ave    Econ  SR    4w  5w  10w
Tests  43  83   10997  5856  207   8/108  12/107  28.28  3.19  53.1  9   12  2
ODIs   3   3    180    105   6     4/19   4/19    17.50  3.50  30.0  1   0   0

SK Warne

Code: Select all

Mat Inns Balls  Runs  Wkts  BBI   BBM     Ave    Econ  SR    4w  5w  10w
Tests  145 273  40705  17995 708   8/71  12/128  25.41  2.65  57.4  48  37  10
ODIs   194 191  10642  7541  293   5/33  5/33    25.73  4.25  36.3  12   1   0

OK MacGill got a wicket every 4 balls less than Warne. Not much at all.
Warne averaged almost 3 runs less per wicket.
Warne averages 4.88 wickets per test. MacGill 4.81.
MacGill 2 x 10 wicket hauls in 43 tests (ave 21.5 tests) Warne 10 in 145 (14.5 tests)

Warne is by far the better bowler. However MacGill was pretty damn good in his own right. He just was around at the wrong time.

The stats tell the story. MacGill got wickets quicker, giving our quality batsmen more time to make more runs. End of story.

Bacon wrote:Why aren't they reporting who was the most economical bowler, or the best strike rate? Because it is WICKETS that bowlers are paid for.

LOL, thanks for killing your own argument, Marc :D

Bacon wrote:Damien Martyn managed to keep a batting spot, even if a snail could score faster.. it was the amount that matters, not the way you go about it.

:D Check... and Mate

Again ... you are correct. And as Warne had the bigger amount of wickets, and MacGill "spun it more"(read:the way he went about it), Warne is, by your own admission, the better bowler.

THAT would be check mate, sir ;)

dead right bruce.

he had plenty of opportunity to show his skills when warne was at his prime as well, with warne's finger and shoulder injuries, and his suspension.

warne and macgill should never even be compared, thats how much better warne is.

The worst thing is that we have another untalented also-ran in Beau Casson about to be gifted a baggy green. And suprise suprise, its just after he moved to new south wales. The old saying that when you get a baggy-blue you get a baggygreen in a brown paper bag is certainly true in this instance.

(a song that me and a mate wrote on this subject - tune: click go the shears)

Don't give up, don't give up, never lose the dream,
play for new south wales and you'll get a baggygreen,
don't have to hit the middle and don't have to hit the seam,
just play for new south wales and you'll get a baggy green.
