I have found I used to p1$$ away my big stack

Tactics to overcome this

1/Change to ultra loose and passive or ultra tight and agressive -opposite of what the others are doing but always careful not to stick with any hand too long unless you sure u got it. ie. the nuts or close


2/Also another tactic is to commit one short stack opponent to all in on a mediocre hand and then get someone else medium stacked to make a further decent bet then force them out by putting them all in if they want to play on.
The bet they made on the side pot covers the loss against the first player or u win all and have a massive jump in your stack.

To make this work you got to get them involved in the pot with a few decent (blocking) bets but not too big so as to scare them out till you are ready.

Sounds half ar$4d & risky but it has worked for me a few times mopping up the short stacks and whittling the mediums down to size and have won tourneys using this (& in half the time lol)

best thing to do on a big stack is fold out until your table is smaller,
or your active cards have less runners.
try not to focus on a specific strategy,
i found myself getting monster stacks and holding more than all the other players put together only to lose it in 3 hands and finish bubble.

if you aren't used to having heaps of chips then just fold as much as possible. There's no need for you to keep playing heaps of hands.
If you wanna use you chips against people just do it when they've got nothing.

why dont you keep playing the way you did to accumulate the massive stack in the first place?

usually when i am playing well and winning, i loosen up my starting selection, but if it looks dangerous and people are starting to push on marginal hands, then i play a bit tighter and stay out of the way.

why should this strategy change just because it has been working and i have a bit stack?

Because you bleed chips
At least that's what happens to most people. You call hands you might not have before (without realising it) because of your stack.

Large stack = more uses. There's no use having a large stack and playing like you have a starting stack. Playing with a short stack is a disadvantage - and on the other side, playing with a big stack is an advantage. You can push people off hands by forcing them to part with all their chips on a marginal hand that they might have caught on if you hadn't raised.

Of course, just don't play silly hands. That's what it comes down to.

And WATCH THE STACKS. See what people have. To you, betting 20% of your stack might be 50% of someone elses, and if you aren't prepared to part with more, it can come back to bite you. Bet according to their stack, using yours.

the problem with him following the way he played to get the stack is he may have done it on a marginal hand and it's just paid off, people saw him win on the marginal hand and he's the obvious target.

here is a big fuck up 4th brake at states i was chip leader with 101k with like 30 people left and got knocked out in 22nd.

I avoid getting a big stack to begin with. It's hard, but somehow I manage to keep my stack low.

6 person sit n go for $6

I knock out two other people on the first hand with a straight. Up to 4500

Manage to knock around and get it to 6000.

Manage to finish 3rd and out of the payouts.

all of the above comments are very true.

what i meant was that if you start thinking about what you are or arent doing when you have a lot of chips, then you tend to over analyse things and make bad calls, i.e make too many loose calls because you made a conscious decision to loosen up and play more hands, or alternatively you go into your shell and throw ur top pair to a river bluff when your read tells you to play it.

does that make more sense?
