HUD Configurations

Postby AJG » Sat Aug 01, 2009 5:34 pm

I have recently changed poker tracking software from Prospector to HoldemManager (HEM), both because HEM is superior in the features offered in both and because it has a very powerful HUD. (And from my research is superior to PT for a number of reasons)

I have spent sometime both experimenting with my own HUD configurations, and researching what others use (on 2+2, and also the HEM forums).

Perhaps those players who do use HUD software (HEM or PT) might wish to contribute some tips on how to get the most out of the HUD?
And for those reading who don't use a HUD, why you do so?

I am happy to post what I have found best, so far, and others can comment on it and maybe I can further improve it.
All I will say for now is I have 2 VERY different configurations for HU and SnGs/MTTs.

Will follow up soon :)

for tournaments, i just use the standard one. i.e vpip, prf, af, hands etc

for cash games, i have added a lot of stats

i have

hands

total won/lost - often a good indication of a player that leaks chips, or of your own image at the table. also useful to know where i am, because i auto refill every time i am less than the max buyin.

vpip,

pfr

af

3bet percentage

fold to 3bet percentage

cbet %

fold to cbet%

fold sb percentage

fold bb percentage

imo, they dont turn you into a bot. Observant players will try to notice for example, how often a player is involved in pots, how often they raise etc and a HUD simplifies this process allowing you to concentrate on the decision making process. If you automatically do the same thing everytime a stat has a particular value, then yes, that is botlike, but they are just one of the inputs into the decision making process...
Also, they make a HUGE difference when multi-tabling...

Good post. I personally use the default stats when playing cash games, but will try some of the different ones out in the next few days. using the HUD is really helpful.

Thanks maccatak...
The only thing I would add to previous post, is to try not to become reliant upon them (hence saying they are just 1 input into the decison making process) as I can easily see becoming so would be detrimental to your live game...
