Points suck out

Played at the Pooraka last night and finished on the final table by simply just folding

18 players left and i had 4k left with the blinds being 1/2k and BB

Holding a couple of rags and after a 7k raise and all in caller i fold
All in lost so its down to 17

SB and again holding crap cards so folded due to another large raise and caller.

On the button with 1k and again there is a large raise and a caller
This time im holding
[4s] [4c]
Do i play or fold
With 17 players left and players dropping off quickly plus at least 6 deals before i have to post another blind the decision was made
Chase the points so i folded
[as] [qd] vs [ac] [jh]
were the raisers hands
Neither hit and my
[4s] [4c]
would have won if i stayed in

But another player was out on another table and we now had 16

Now down to 2 tables and again 6 deals before the blind hits me
Im dealt
[ah] [qh]
I stuck to my plan and i throw them away
Luckily neither hit

Still 16 players left
I look at my cards and have
[8s] [8d]
Again a raiser and caller but im tempted to play but i fold and stick to plan
Dont remember the flop but i would have been in trouble if i played with 2 over cards
Turn
[8c]
River
[8h]
Quads if i played but points are the goal here

Bubble was now burst and i have got into the points

For the next few hands players dropped on both tables and i kept folding no matter what
10 players left and the next deal i was BB but being hand for hand a player went out on the other table.

FINAL TABLE

Could i get lucky again and pick the
[as] [8s] [9s]

5 cards left and i drew the
[as]
With 1k left i could suck out more points

Again not playing a hand and folding players were knocked out before i was committed to play

One hand before the BB hit me and blinds 5/10ki had
[js] [qs]
So my 1k went in
Nothin hit and i finished 5th

Brilliant points suckout which pushed me into the top 5

Ballsy effort! i certainly am not good at that.

i was on final table last night, 4 of us, most of us pretty even (all around the ~30k mark), i folded my blinds if i was raised as i had utter garbage, but then i was first to act with [kc] [7c] and went all in. small blind called and had [ac] [9c]. he won with trip 9s and i was gone ;(

not bad for a short stack "iron man" pts suckout, but you probably would've ended up with more pts if you played those hands.

my opinion is play the cards and not worry about the points, otherwise it affects your game and you make the wrong decisions.

Nope

If i played the
[4s] [4c]
I would have trippled up to 3k

But if i played the
[ah] [qh]
I would have been out in 16th (bubble)

Again at the Pooraka another points suck out
This time i was looking good to get to the final table with a nice chip stack, but losing a 15k pot with 21 players left left me with $3500 with blinds 1/2k and now BB.
Points suck out was now the only option.
Had garbage in the BB and with a raise and an all in i folded leaving $1500
19 players left

The SB showed me even more rubbish and again with a raiser i quickly folded especially with blinds going up next hand to 2/4k there were plenty of all in players before the blinds hit me again so points were looking good.
Now 16 players left.

I kept folding and within a few hands 9 players were knocked out and for the second week in a row i was on the final table short stacked with only $500 chipped up to 1k
Could luck be on my side again as i drew seat position
[as]
For the second week in a row i drew the dealer button

There were some big stacks with 7 players left but with Garth on the final table i knew and hoped he would knock out some players before i was forced to play.

Some nice hands were won and lost with only Garth being knocked out before i had to play the blind.

No luck with a few all ins winning and i finished 6th

Yeah nothing like going from 2 to 1 chip leader to out in three hands.
Flopped top two against made straight, two outer on the river. And shove with A rag on the button and run into the hooks. I love poker.
At least my form is good now. Played Full Tilt for the last couple of days: Have made final table in all my SNG's and MTT's except for 4 times now. Thats a 75% strike rate for final table appearances. Just a pity I've being using Darren's bank roll.

I believe that's a jointly held title, Pete.

There's nothing wrong with folding to the money/points if this is your sole aim. If your goal is to win, this line will rarely get you there.

The most enjoyable part of an online tourney for me (besides the final table) is watching the play degenerate around the bubble as people do whatever they can to avoid bubbling or missing the money by afew spots.

personally i think it depends. if you are looking to secure your top 5, there is nothing wrong with being super tight. but of course if you are looking to win the night and you're in that position, there is no point mucking around too much.
