Wow... haven't been on the forum for a few days and come on to find this whole argument started again... please understand i do NOT have a problem with the current leaderboard system (although maybe a bit unfair for some regional players)... there only seems to be one option GET RID OF THE STATE LEADERBOARD. I am not saying this is my opinion, but i can't seem to come up with any other options that will keep 'some' people happy... keep it as it is or get rid of it...
I respect the poker gods, I think that's why they are nice to me!!!

i think most people dont care either way about the state leaderboard - i dont play enough games for it to affect me, so i dont worry about it.

all this would do is get all of the biggest NPL customers pissed off, and make them play less games (spend less money etc etc)

i think everyone should just get used to the current system, because its probably here to stay for a while.

btw, in my region B&G, we have been getting some record numbers at the venues, to NPL is in great shape.

Pokermad,

There is a simple phrase in the poker communities in the world it is called

"Don't Tap the Glass"

It mainly is in reference to a fishbowl. The last thing you want to do is stir up or anger the fishes. The main reason for this is if you teach them anything, or show them something new. Their play then improves and leaves you losing even more money to them.

By calling them a name, they probably won't come back to the game. Then that means all your left with is good players, and no new money coming in.

Simple situation.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Brett.

I refer you to the forum rules, specifically where it says to 'play nice'.

It's quite simple, derogatory names aren't welcome.

No,
What it is; is a competition, hopefully, full of players that treat each other respectfully no matter the level of skill you display.
Referring to someone in a derogatory manner will now result in a warning then expulsion from a tournament.
More than one expulsion will result in an instant minimum ten week suspension.
It seems some players out there have developed a sense of superiority and feel it necessary to point out someone's bad play rather obnoxiously, well it's their belief it's a bad play and may not necessarily be true.
What players need to realize is that in this state and in NPL at the moment there is a great disparity in skill levels, from beginner to veteran, and the one thing we do not want to see happening is the intimidation of new and beginning players. A lot of new and current players are being turned off poker tournaments due to this culture of abusing players that has crept into the NPL SA community.

Feel free to disagree with me, but your comments above Pokermad just add weight to everything I have said above.

In regards to Cougar's idea RE: running tournaments for players that have never placed. This type of structure would make the current prize pool and qualification processes slightly redundant.
A structure we are contemplating is a seasonal free roll for all new players in that one season, a freeroll where prizes are given away and some basic training and advice is offered by staff on the day.

That's not a bad idea, it should make them feel all warm and fuzzy and hopefully improve their game at the same time.

Nice work!

that is a great idea about the freeroll garth.

how do you decide that someone is a new player though? less than 10 games?

some people might have played 2 seasons worth, and would like some extra help, as we all do.

any word on the poker boot camps for more knowledgable players? are these still in the pipeline?

It would be for all new registrations that have occurred in that season.
Training regimes are along ways away. I have been given the opportunity to take these on with the help of Mel Judah. I have yet to organise another meeting with Mel as he is based on London and currently on the WPT circuit and won't be back in Australia until after the WSOP.
He is keen to start these NPL bootcamps up and to have someone of this nature work closely with players will be, to quote Pete, "AWESOME".
