Re: CENSORSHIP

Postby Garth Kay » Mon Mar 10, 2008 6:54 pm

I am speaking for those that have spoken to me, but are not members of the forum, who have asked me to raise issues on this very forum about things that make it difficult to play.

Speak for them then, what things make it difficult for them to play?
We run over 140 events per week, 7 days a week, with varying time slots for all games? How much easier can venues or NPL create access to events? Over the weekends we are almost running games 24 hours a day, I stress the almost.

However, what I am asking is for people to take their blinkers off and recognise that there is an army of small time players who would like to play for something "The small time players championships that count for nothing really Trophy".

You have to be kidding me? How redundant do you want to make this? These players who wish to play for something need only strive to improve their game if they wish to achieve anything at NPL levels. What is the merit in holding a game for the thousands of players who have never placed. To see the happy glow on their face? I would much rather see the look on when they work hard and finally achieve something when beating a field of what was previously more superior players.

As for Mr Kay's response I consider that it borders on a personal assault on my ability and character as a player and as a person.
Your continued attempts to use statistics to prove me wrong will only make you look a bigger fool than you have already proven. HE USES STATISTICS LIKE A DRUNK USES A LAMPOST- FOR SUPPORT RATHER THAN ILLUMINATION.

Consider it anything you want but re read my post first:
As "disgruntled" as I was upon reading several of your first posts ( and they did have merit and were constructive) I have to say that this last one is just totally ridiculous and absurd.
I am just going to dignify it with this one response and remind you that 59% of our members will generally play more than once a week, when they do play.
I have to say that this is your most absurd post to date and by posting that you are sounding like a whining, spoilt child who is throwing a tantrum because they can't get their way.

I can't read anywhere there that there is a personal insult or in no way am i defaming your character or making derogatory comments about your character or skills as a poker player.
In regards to the comments made about your posts I still stand by them. No apology will be forthcoming.

I have seen you play and yes you might be going through a rough patch, as we all do, but basically you stink as a poker player.

Mr Kay your skill is you ability to promote and sell NPL to venues and players and to recruit good staff and manage them well. When you start attacking players like me that have helped promote NPL as much as I have then Sir, you are slowly but surely killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.

Now this is a post where someone is attacking another person's skill as a poker player. People can say what they like about my skills, your perception of me as a player matters not one iota to me. I know my levels as a player and there are a lot of staff and players out there that can attest to my knowledge and skills in the game and how I have helped them out to improve their game.
By the way my rough patch is a long time over.

I'm sorry if you see my post as an attack on you but I will stand by my beliefs (and obviously the views of several others) that your post is simply complaining because you cannot achieve a berth in the State Finals. Your arguments change constantly as someone points out the flaws in argument after argument you present. I must repeat that many of your previous posts did hold merit and were constructive, but these last two posts are just preposterous.

Granted I may have overstepped my bounds and perhaps reacted in a non diplomatic manner, I make no excuses for that. But if people can come on to the forum and continue to post in these veins and attack a system and a competition that myself and our staff have worked extremely hard to perfect and continue to work hard on then you, in turn, are attacking us.

I have so much more to say on these matters but unfortunately today is a public holiday and one of the few days I get off. I will not sully it anymore discussing these absurd notions.

To everyone else I thank you for your continued support of NPL and posting in response to these matters. We always appreciate the feedback.

Just quickly...

Cougar - from what I can see all you are asking for (on this occasion) is some sort of return for those players who would love to play but just cant - with a large part of the reason being along the lines of 'they spend their money too'. Is that correct??

If that's the case, ASK THE FRICKING VENUE. They're the ones receiving a majority of whatever money is spent on meals/booze/whatever. As I understand it, the NPL receives a fixed dollar amount (very low number) per stamp card redeemed and the rest remains with the venue. So if you put $50 over the bar you are not putting $50 directly into the NPL coffers... nowhere near it.

You may have even noticed some of the venues starting to offer some very decent rewards for the winners, sugegst to your mates to go play there and it's job done.

If you reckon they should get some kind of final because they could barely play at all, I'm sorry mate but in my opinion you're dreaming on that one.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

They give 500 for bringing someone new.. What about the same for bringing someone who hasn't played since Season 1? Dunno if the computer system can handle that though (being stand alone at the venue).

That's if falling numbers is a problem. I know my mate doesn't play anymore because he's too busy. But he doesn't complain to me about it, it's just how it is. And he didn't play his Season 1 State Final seat because it was too far (and he was hung over). He saw NPL as a game for fun that we went to weekly, and that was it. The Season Final meant little to him, the NPL social aspect is why he played. And he did miss a game or 2 in the first season, and still made state final.

OK. TIME FOR MR CBD TO CHIME IN.

A) The NPL leaderboard system in which we reward players (quailfiers) is set. No single person or group has submitted any resonable evidence to warrent change. No single person or group has provided any resonable format in which our system could possible change too. (including my previous posts on the matter)

B) Change in any set system will always have ramifications.

For Example: If the NPL were to simplify (or make easier) the state finals qualifing process to suit the "unregular" players then in turn the prizes funds for said event would ulitmatly diminish.

As qualifying would be easier, less events would be played by fewer players and in turn the NPLs viable business sustainabilty would be jepodised. With less funds being secured, the overall results would be; Less events, less players, smaller statefinals and fewer jobs.

All things considered we are the best provider of free poker becuase of the model that is already in place.

C) Censorship. In reagrds to this particular thread, When discussion on a particular topic reaches the critical state that it is in. People tend to say what they feel rather then what they know.

Garth has approached every turn in this winding road with a statistic and viable busniness solution based response. Courgar, With every point you have pledged you have based every response with nothing more than hear-say and your passion for the war you wage.

This forum does have guidelines in which it should be utilised. As a moderator i have the power to edit, remove or even delete entire posts and threads how ever i have never done so.

Be informed that when any thread/post is altered it is highly discussed by all the moderators both staff and NPL players. In fact we have our own moderator section specificly for this purpose.

For any content in any thread or post to be removed it is generally by a consensis of the moderators. Garth is not the Almight Forum Nazi as he being psionified.

D) Finally.

NPL will always reward loyalilty. Not suggesting that you are not loyal cougar, But answer this one question for me....

Player a) averages 9 games per season.
Player b) averages 26 games per season.
Player c) averages 60 games pers season.

Which of these players would the NPL most likely to reward? and why?

I know what answer you looking for Nathan.

I would also like to add, that at every event a player does play in, they can win a little piece of the 1 million dollars in venue prizes e.t.c. that you we giving away this year.

The more you play, the better your chances of picking up a larger share.
