I'm all outta time to research this properly myself, but I need some mobile broadband for the weekend.

So I've got some questions for people.

Who do you use?
Are they any good?
How much does it cost?

Mostly interested in pre-paid, and would have to buy a modem too.

I'll be looking to use it in places such as Port Lincoln, Victor H, Rapid Bay, Whyalla, so the reception/coverage doesn't have to be perfect, but it needs to be reasonable.

Over to you wise people.

I only have mobile broadband, no land based internet, and went with 3, purely because they were the only one's with no contract (this may have changed since). Of course that means you need to buy the modem upfront, but it has worked out better than a few friends who went with various other providers on a contract, as I have been able to change plans as they become available (some are still paying same as me per month for half the quota!)

I havent had too many problems with it, in a year I have had maybe 3-4 issues connecting (or droppong out) that lasted no more than 6 hours, usually with dropping out I was able to log straight back on. And luckily only once during a Poker tournamnet ;)

Like a mobile phone (which is essentially what the modems are) I would say coverage pretty much the same, but Telstra might have an advantage there, butthen they alsoi charge the most! Personally it was more important to me, not to get locked into a 24 month contract (but this IS my primary net connection)

And as someone mentioned above, using your mobile phone as a modem is an option, but data costs can be rather large depending on your plan etc. Can even bluetooth your connection with a piece of software called MRouter! which is ridiculously hard to find a working download link for, so if you decide to go this route, PM me and I can email you a copy... There is plenty of info on using it out there though (just most download links broken???)

Edit: Just read your but about prepaid.... If you go 3, just cancel after a month ;)

Hope some of this helps...

I think most of them have pre-paid now.

Optus have certainly had it for yonks.
