My daughter makes me proud!

Just having a bit of a proud moment, and also helping my daughter with her cause (and before anyone gets to the end and says its already being done, yes I know, but I can't not support her)

My eldest daughter is 12, and makes me believe that there is hope for her generation. I will share with you something she has prepared to read to her school tomorrow.......

Tomorrow, I, along with *friend* and my pa, am going to ride to school to help raise awareness for men's depression. Matt Tilly from the Matt and Jo Show on Fox FM (Melbourne) is also going to ride, though not to school. He is going to cycle down the Hume Hwy for 24 hours!
Ours is not an ordinary ride either as we have to go about 10km just to reach school!

I chose to do this because I think it is an important cause. Men's depression effects not only the men, but also their families and friends, and if my doing this can help at least one person, then it's worth it.

No one suggested to J that she should do this, she asked me of her own accord. She was listening to the radio last Monday morning and approached me about it Monday afternoon. When I asked her why she wanted to do it, her response was "Because I want to help these people who need help".
I could have cried! And not just because I was so proud of her caring nature, but because men's depression is an issue for my family too (not that J knew this at the time). Since being a teenager, my brother has battled with depression, he is now 41 and the battle continues. Twice this year we have almost lost him to suicide, and whilst some people can be blase and say that he's just creating drama and that he needs to 'get over it', the reality is quite different. It's an illness, and unfortunately there's no miracle cure.
