Ante's in Free Rolls

Postby MattyMoo » Fri Jul 30, 2010 12:12 pm

Has there ever been a thought about introducing Ante's into FR's with 888?

The reason I ask is that many who qualify for Semi's may have only ever played FR's with no experience with Ante's.

are you talking about live games?

they are super dooper triple turbo as it is, so i dont think antes will be helpful

Yeah live games. I understand that they are relatively turbo currently but the structure could be changed (either time limit or blind levels) to accommodate this. May not be required until quite late in the game.

Just a thought as we have them in the Kingsford Deepstack Freeroll (which runs a similar CBI structure) and many who come and play for the first time have no idea about them.

fair point, it does get annoying at the state finals when people complain about antes, and then forget to put them out every single time.

im not sure i like introducing them into a pub freeroll though, because it will just make everything slower than it already is.

if you find yourself on a table that doesn't know much about antes, the best advice i can give you is to appoint 1 person on the table in charge of the antes (yoorself even)

etiquette dictates that its the dealers responsibility, but if someone else on the table takes charge, it makes it run a bit smoother i think.

in the grand final etc where the oval tables are used, having someone in the middle of the table collect all the antes is the best way to go

Hi Matty.

This has been discussed, but for the average person who does not play very often this could get quite confusing at a regular nightly Freeroll.

How we have set it up is sort of a stepped process, Foundation events have no antes or chip races, Challenge events have antes later in the game and chip races. Semi Finals and Grand Finals have Chip races, Antes the whole way though.

Although I personally love antes and come into my own when antes hit, I would hate to be at a foundation table on a Tuesday night sitting with 3 people who had only ever played poker with their mates, after a few drinks trying to chase up antes and explaining why it’s done. Challenge events are a bit easier as the experience level of the players are generally a bit higher.

Thanks for the feedback, and please do keep it coming, but at the moment we just cant see antes coming into free-rolls.

Michael.

think 1st table of the $50 GF game on Sunday.... That 1st player to bust from that table had to be reminded just to post his blind just about every time!

Things like that, even for an ante, just shouldnt happen at an event of that level (or what level should be reasonably expected). Even if a player has never even heard of an ante before, the concept is pretty darn simple (heck most home games with the folks/uncles etc, esp for anyone over 35, was probably draw maybe stud, so they should know what an ante is!), and once explained anyone playing such an event should have the grey matter to put one out every hand... imho...

in the state final, i got moved to a table of players from port lincoln i think. at least 3 of them were.

one guy bet 3k and another guy tried to raise to 5k.

i told them that the min was 6, and they were like no, thats only preflop

WTF

i told them a little too harshly that how the hell can they make it to state finals without even knowing the rules. thats when they told me they were from the country

if i wasn't tilted so hard it would have been funny
