Dead Stacks in Tournaments

i really think the registration times for the tournaments needs to change

tonight, at 9pm, i logged on to try and register for the 1030 6max game

i was like wtf, it was already full. but while i was watching the lobby, someone unregistered, i was like weeeee!

so i signed up and started playing

on my table was aaron and me and 4, thats right 4 dead stacks!!!!! that means me and aaron were the only ones on the table

well of course me and aaron took it in turns to min raise and steal the blinds.

WHAT KIND OF TOURNEY IS THAT!!!

for the first 70 minutes of the tournament, at least 3 out of the 6 stacks on the table were dead.

i finished 51st out of 200, and there were at least 5 dead stacks that ended up beating me.

i believe that i would have gone a lot better had i been playing against real players, because u cant exacly get a dead stack to go all in


im really not happy about this, it ruins the integrity of the tournaments. what about dead stacks in the deepstack environment? they could last 4 hours or more, which is unacceptable.

my solution is to announce the tournament as far in advance as possible, but only allow registrations after the previous tourney has started. i.e at 730, the 1030 tournament is open for registration, or 3 hours, whichever is earlier.


this would mean that most people that register will actually be playing. tonight was rediculous, it really was.

+1 to this entire post. One of the reasons the online freerolls are getting such large fields is that you can register daaaays in advance, and then just not show up. Who cares, right? Its a freeroll. I make a point to only register early in tournaments I intend on playing. I think out of the 16 or so that I've registered for I've missed 2.

The 6max game really was a joke, benny the cunt and I stole blinds until a 3rd player was moved to our table. Dead stacks in a deepstack can make points as well, we had a dead stack cash today.

You cannot register days in advance; rego opens 24 hours prior. If you play freerolls online expect to play against some deadstacks.

I can discuss with 888 on when we allow players to register for upcoming events. Until then suck it up and keep on raising.

for the weekend tournaments, you CAN register days in advance. there are 31 registered for the 888pl grand final freeroll for june 7 as we speak, and 7 registered for the cash buyin grand final satellite on june 14. the weekend games suck as the 6max were up for more than 24 hours this week im sure, but they dont seem to be yet. - i might be mistaken on this

when i got knocked out in 50th, there were 6 stacks that had less than 800 chips when the blinds were 200/400, and 4 of those had less than a BB. these are pretty obviously dead stacks.

also, it definitely hurt mine and aaron's chances to get a big chip stack early in the tournament - after 45 mins, i still only had 5K just from min raising and taking blinds, then 2 players with 10K+ stacks moved to my table - i never had a chance to get this sort of stack

thirdly, i agree that it doesn't matter as much in a 6max, but it definitely matters in a deepstack tourney - having dead stacks cash is not fair at all.

Agreed, but there isn't much we can do.

I will see if we can only open rego 2 hours before tournament commences.

It will be a problem that we will have to deal with no matter what, but hopefully two hours will restrict the amount of non runners.

i know its not really your fault about the dead stacks, but i think a shorter registration time will mean at least people are at their computers a few hours before hand, which will make them more likely to play

I don't have a problem with the odd dead stack, but they do seem to be very high. And I saw one, where it was in for their last T400, get 4 callers, then an idiot bluffs of the dry side pot, and the dead stack wins T2000 and stays for another 15 mins. That's how these stacks stay longer.... And the chat was priceless "I won the hand, I bet you off. I, like you, am here to win"... yet didn't get it that, by knocking out the dead stack, they would've been 1 step closer to winning

Take the 12pm game today. I could register for that last night, but I know I can't play (being at work).. I won't register, but some will. If the rego was open only 4 hours before, you could minimise that.

I have no issue with either 2 or 4 hours.

If you're the type of person who rego's for a tourney then just doesn't show up AND don't bother to unregister, then I think you're a selfish jerk.
