Final Table Position

hey guys,

had this discussion topic on my mind for a while and wanted to know people's thoughts on the matter.

Playing today at the highlander, the final table bubble burst the hand i was the small blind and then i unfortunately picked up the UTG card from the table with the cards faced down, meaning i had to pay the blinds again and at 2000/4000 this meant i was extremely disadvantaged

is there a better system then picking up the face down cards? isnt poker all about position? what do they do in other live tournaments?

In live tournaments;

All seating draws are randomly conducted, when your table is broken it doesn't matter if you came from the small blind you move to whatever position on the next table you were lucky enough to get.

The same is said for the final table, a random redraw is conducted for seating positions then a high card deal to find where the button starts.

I think we have treated NPL players too well and that some of them have developed a certain attitude, we break tables according to position as best as possible, but if someone loses a position they are more than likely going to have a dummy spit, especially if they are moved more than twice in a tournament.

Some live or online tournaments I have being unfortunate to play the big blind or EP three to six hands in a row. It's just apart of the business.

So in answer to your question Steve, no their will be no fairer way of seating the final table.

My comment to those who do wish to find some way to alleviate the pressure of posting BB and then being placed in EP or the blinds again is this:

"Grab a tissue, dry your eyes and suck it up."

Most tournaments its a redraw for position. depends on how quick you are getting to the cards.

Think if there are 5 good positions and 3 bad positions, Do you want to be pulling a card first, or pulling a card last.

If you did it by chip stack, lowest to highest does it still make much of a difference.

At a lot of the live poker tournaments, especially in big ones they wind back the clock for a couple of levels also.

fair enough garth, i wasnt really having a cry over the matter, it just seems in a super turbo tournament like npl, the blinds play a big role late in the tourney and the game can be more like a game of chance

final table is basically lotto anyway (especially for the 30 odd runner tourneys), so it doesn't really matter where u get drawn out.

I think there is a very big advantage to pulling the button or close to it in the final table, there is usually at least 1 blind raise sometimes 2 depending on the table before it gets to that position,

Have a think back over some of your final tables and i would reckon that a great % of them would loose at least 1 or 2 and as many as 4 players in the first rotation of the table, usually all those poor short stacks that also manage to pull the blinds straight up.

so all of a sudden you are down 4-6 players and you havent paid a blind yet, and are able to just sit there, all the while waiting for your premium cards.

mabey its just coinicidence but i have all ways done better on final tables when i am started with a few hands from the blinds.

I didn't think you were having a whinge, my comments are to those who do whinge, especially the "but I've being moved twice already" or the "I should be on the dealer button not in the cutoff" type of players.

All live tournaments are a random seating allocation.

I even believe online is pretty random. I remember at one hectic stage of a tournament I got moved four tables, each time I landed in between the blinds and buttons. I didn't get to play a hand for around five minutes until the last move (fifth table) put me UTG.
