I'm a little disappointed

Postby Nevah play JJ » Wed Aug 06, 2008 2:39 am

Hi all,
I know we all go on and on about how professional NPL is and how we appreciate all the efforts put in by NPL staff and most of all by our TD's, but I want to get a sook off my chest and hope it is recieved with constructive criticism.

First of all:
I must confess one of the things I loved about the way NPLSA and the NPLSA Forums was run was the fact our OM had a HUGE input into the forum section.
I am sure Annabelle is doing her absolute best, but it would be awesome to hear from her once in awhile in these forums.

We always had a bit of a heads up about the new thought processes being put in place by Head office and I do understand that Garth did go over and above his duties, but it was always awesome to hear what was going on in the pipelines, rather than just have the usual "hearsay and gossip" handed around.

I guess I just get a little miffed about the fact we have no idea what is going on now.

Are there going to be top 10 weekly players?
etc etc....

Secondly:
I am not sure about all the other corners of Adelaides NPL venues, but we at the Sowf have not even had our prize packs come out yet.
Is it only me, or is that unfair to the TD's that have to explain they have not been given them yet and will IOU them to the final table players?
What kind of image is that giving to the new players that seem to be joining our ranks at the moment?

I can understand why last season they did recycle the old trophies, keyrings, DVD's (OMG those damn DVD's) and the AA card protectors, but surely there are new offerings in the pipeworks?

How much do we love those new cool packs? I know I got 7 because of the damn 7 2nd places I got, but they are all useful! They are awesome!
But maybe we can get a break from those horrible DVD's.. It is at the point now we can't even give them away to bystanding watchers.

I will leave it there for now, I do appreciate what NPL is doing and has done in the past, but I guess one of the things I love about the forums being set up is the fact we can air our disappointments and can get constructive thoughts sent back.
I still maintain that NPL is highly professional, it just seems that at the moment they are slipping a little.

Exactly the same thing happened at Waikerie last night where our TD found out only an hour or teo before play that he was not getting the new prize packs and had to IOU players.

Nearly everyone at my venure were regulars so this isn't a massive problem, its just dissapointing that we were also a season behind in the first place, and we are missing out even more.

I disagree with you on your first item JJ - Annabelle has been on here, and was the source of information regarding the Sky City Satellites. Annabelle isn't a poker player as Garth was, so her input on poker related topics will never be anything like Garth's was - and if I'm not mistaken, a lot of Garth's posts were poker related, or rule interpretations etc. I'm sure Annabelle will be on here to announce NPL initiative as they happen (ie. Sky City seats)

I do agree with you on the second point, IOUs for prize packs are poor form.

Repetitive prize packs tho, are just the price you pay for being an NPL whore. I too am a little over Bluff, or even the DVDs :D

perhaps a poll. Have you watched the dvd? or worse still have you burned the dvd?

Well worded Rcon, thanks for the input. :)

I agree about Garth's comments being about poker, but what I was trying to say is that Garth also announced nearly everything going on with NPL through this forums first. (Or what I saw anyway)

Eg: Berri Deepstack tournament, Seaford Hotel being the venue for the last state finals, The weekly top 10....
The list goes on.

Since his departure we have not seen anything like that through here and it seems that is going to be a practice taken on now.

I have no doubt that Annabelle is doing a great job and this is NOT intended as a mud slinging topic.

It was just we had a few comments in here already about hearsay and what is going on through the grapevine rather than the OM in here to do a stomp the rubbish rumour out.

The only "promotion or initiative" NPL has put forward since Garth has departed the scene has been the Sky City Satellite seats for winners of all tournaments in the last 4 weeks of the season. And Annabelle announced this.

The main initiative last season was the Player of the Week, and despite much discussion around this, as was explained by Garth at the time, Sky City put a fair amount of $$ into advertising this scheme in its current form, so forget about changing it anytime soon.

Don't forget, Garth birthed NPL over here, so there was always going to be a flurry of changes in the first year.

From what I can recall, the teams event and Berri started through the forums - lets be honest, this was mainly because of Garth's influence (his love of poker definitely helped). I'm a little disappointed that we haven't really seen much of that so far. It'd be good to see more ideas from the forums (region of origin, proposec changes to PotW etc) merge into actual events.

And yeah, the IOU on prize packs is pretty poor.
