[quote="BigPete33"]If you live in a regional area, you just can't expect to be 'compensated' or given special treatment or bonuses or whatever - because it's nobody elses fault that you chose to live there.]
At first glance i thought that was a bit harsh but now i think on it,
I think your right pete,
Im in waikerie which is aprox 1 and a half hours from the closest b and G venue and half and hour from the next riverland venue
I am gratefull that we even have an NPL venue in my town for me to play at regularly. The alternative is a drive up river or another provider (not currently in my town but see next paragraph)
I have a friend who lives at Strath and they only have APL there so he is forced to play with them, and because of that has never played NPL so actually thinks APL is a good provider.
So i dont think we need special treatment, we are lucky to have a place to play with a profesional provider like NPL and i am greatfull for that, and in a way NPL SA think of the country player by having the deepstack event only 45mins away from me in berri, which could easily be in adelaide like every other event and have me travel 2hs +

That's an excellent point krunchie.
I wasn't attempting to be harsh, it's simply how it is.

Re: Leaderboards.
instead of excluding people from the state finals by making it top 3, why not just include more people?
what about making it top 5 from each venue as well as top 10 from each region?
there are 13 in sa, so an extra 130 runners at most wouldn't make that much of a difference
out of 800 odd, i think only 500ish turned up at the last state finals, so there wouldn't be an issue with a few extra i wouldn't think
i think this would make sunbury happy as well

I think this is an extreemly valid point benny the cunt
of 800 only 500 odd turned up so does that mean that there is a portion of the NPL comuntity that dont care for the state finals as pasionatly as we do I think so.
NPL is a Buisness and as such makes decisons to suit all its players the best it can, and a stat like the above highlights the vast differences the NPL has in its customers,
I mean people on the forum here could never imajine missing states if they qualified (except steve G) but the figures show that 1 in 6 dont mind,
Im not sure if i have made a point but mearly pointing out that its hard to keep everyone happy when there is so many diferent types of customers for a company like NPL to keep happy

I think there's a portion of the NPL community that won't go further than Adelaide no matter which side of it they are from

Re: Leaderboards.
From another thread on this forum.
3 seasons ago I was playing almost all riverland venues each week
Last season I played at 2 venues and a couple of other venues from time to time.
This season I am playing one venue and an occasional visit to other riverland venues.
Why you ask ?
Easy whats the point now of the RLB, and because I'm not available to play my prefered venues every week for various reasons, because of that I would have very little chance to make state via those venues, I have decided to play my home venue.
Also do your numbers:-
Monday Cobby 90k round trip
Tue Home could walk there but I dont.
Wed Barmera 100k round trip
Thurs Renny Club dont normally play this venue.
Fri Berri 120k round trip
Sunday RSC 160k round trip
If I play only 3 of the away venues this = 370k eack week, with up to $100 per week for stamping up
Or I can play in some other venues in Adelaide from time to time I could consider playing a B&G venue each week next season for a couple a hundred K's and 1 drink to get stamped up, or I could play a double header at Paradise Friday's or a triple header in the Salisbury area on a Saturday, for a similar outlay.
The question is who looses? its NPL venues in the riverland, as they are 1 player down, not me as I can play as much poker as I like online or travel to other venues if I want.
What would bring me back to play more riverland venues if a position on the RLB ment something ie direct entry to state.
What surprises me Gundog, is that you have stopped travelling to play with us, yet you regularly will drive all the way to the city to play.

Re: Leaderboards.
i like bennys idea. top 10 qualify for states from regional leaderboard. would place much more emphasis on this. (maybe even more so than the money did). leave top 5 the same. im guessing that most of that 30% that dont come to states are country players - so giving more country players the opportunity can only be a good thing. its not at the expense of anyone else either, and it will increase the status of the RLB at NO COST to NPL. makes sense to me.
Riskers gamble, experts calculate.

Re: Leaderboards.
Maybe I have been pushing my ideas a bit too much, but I like the idea if the NPL were to be able to just change the SF to top 10 in each region and not top 50 state leaderboard, then there is only an additional 20 players from VIC based on 10 regions.
ie currently 50 from state would instead be 10 from the 10 regions. instead of 3 and keep top 5.
I just think currently the state leaderboard favours the metro areas.
As it is most regional players have to drive several k's to play and if unable to finish top 5 in venue have no chance of making the states.
Some metro players could finish as low as 13 in a venue and still make states as they have played a large portion of games. It would only mean an extra 10 people from the regional areas but would encourage the avid players to at least try and play multiple events in their region.
You aren't really even disadvantaging metro players as the good players will still make top 5 and the large volume players can still chase the top 10/25 in their region.

Re: Leaderboards.
I see no problem in giving the top finishers in each region, whether it be five, ten or whatever, a state finals berth.
