I had only played 9 Away games last season and played my 10th game at another venue on the last day of the season to meet what I thought were the correct requirements. ;)

So, am I right in saying that playing a minimum of 10 Away games in the 13 week season is not a requirement to qualify for a GF but it is for the state/semi final?

Am I right in saying that a punter can either win, buy or be given a GF ticket and still qualify the August GF provided they get their 10 Away games in before the August GF .... YES??

8. End of Season Finals Qualification
8.1. At the conclusion of an 88PL season; qualifiers for each state's respective Semi Finals will be formulated by the administrators of the league.
8.2. Players must abide by the current qualification processes as outlined in qualification methods (i.e. Top 5 on a venue score board) as well as have participated in 10 regular Away events during the regular season.
8.3. The above qualification rule applies to all Semi Finals and Grand Finals.
8.4. Any player who has been suspended during the regular season will not be permitted to participate in any finals even though they may have achieved the qualification criteria.

So for Semi's a season is 12 or 13 weeks and the GF is the 4 'seasons' so you have to play 10 games if you qualify for the semi's you have also qualified for the GF.
At least thats the way I read it.

Thanks for pointing it out to me codger, it makes more sense now. I was confused with the extended period regarding the GF requirements.

There were however, a few of my friends who slipped through the cracks at the Arkaba semis. They were as shocked as I was that they qualified with only a couple of Away games under their belt and a few home games. Hence my surprise this time around.

All good though and should be another great Semi final as I like playing at the WAFC. And I can't wait to play the GF at Caulfield and keep checking the mail for my GF Package.

To be fair Bob, 888pl did do their best to accomodate all players for that semi due to the scoreboard disruptions throughout that season. We should be applauding them for this, not putting them to task over it...

Although it is in the league rules (and stated by Garth on the forum), it is still an oversight not to mention the 10 away game qualification criteria for the Semi's on the website, as it is the place that most people will look for the information.

bennymacca wrote:ok this is fair enough.

so for someone that goes and plays at the grand junction or something, and qualifies in 3 weeks, he is allowed to play?

This one here is fairly big IMO as these games are always promoted as "are you looking for an easy way to qualify for the Semi Finals?". With the rules as they are, a new player who registers in the first week of this has no chance of qualifying for the semi's (and I could argue that of course they don't deserve to for that particular season if they only play the 3), unless they play 7 games elsewhere....

The quoted statement above (about easy Semi qualification) would be ok if the actual Semi qualification criteria was stated somewhere along with it (even as a disclaimer stating to check the website for full qualification criteria), as long as the info on the website (which is your #1 source of info to the players in the league) is 100% correct...

Having said all that, I totally agree with the qualification criteria. I have played both on-line and away, and can see people getting "comfortable, or can't be bothered going out", why would they if they didn't have to?

As a business, you have to put rules in place that benefit your business....

I think maybe alot of people have lost sight of the fact that our league started out as an in-venue league. Before they came along, we didn't have many choices as to where to play poker. Now they have been able to somewhat bridge the gap between online poker and live poker (and are a pioneer in the WORLD at doing this). Our players need to accept the fact that the live in-venue play is our league's bread and butter, and if you want to participate in the rewards for playing in the league, then participate in a way that benefits the league, which in turn will benefit you as a player if you are good enough.....

Thanks Jo for you're input and support.

Most away games scoreboards will not have the 10 away game qualification enforced, but home scoreboards will.

this is great i think.

basically, make sure you are a live supporter of 888pl. if you played 9 live games instead of 10, i don't think they would care that much, but if you played once or twice live, then you really don't have any right to play for the semi finals.

+1

I like a few other players . Have left A2k Bighair whilst being in the last 15to10 places with plenty of Chips .To go & play my local venues .Throwing away what could of been a win .
Because my LOCALS come 1st .
Online games are just a bonus . Players that only play online stop wingeing ,I'm sure there are people who have made money online from 888poker league ,With out contributing to the live side of 888pl .Without live games you have no online games .FACT
