Hi all, i'll start with the intro it's Steve Crotty here. This thread has drawn me out of the forum shadows where I have lurked for a while and into the thick of it.
Let me start by saying that I understand how the top 5 points system is applied in relation to top 50 coming out and qualifying at your best venue etc etc. The bit I'm not too keen on is when a person qualifies in the same position at 2 venues that person goes through at the venue where they scored the highest points. This is fine in principle, as long as the season lengths at the venues are the same. Take the following completely hypothetical situation
A person, let's just randomly give him the initials SG, qualifies 2nd on Thursday night at a hypothetical pub, let's call it the QA

. After 2 weeks of the season the NPL night is shifted from a Thursday to a Monday. This means there is a Thursday season which runs for 2 weeks and a Monday season which runs for 8 weeks. Now say our friend SG also happens to finish 2nd in the 8 week Monday season. Going by the rules he qualifies in the season he had the highest points. But that is obviously always going to be the 8 week season regardless of SG's performances.
It is my humble opinion that in a situation where the 2 venues being compared did not have equal number of tournaments then the players highest average score should decide which venue they qualify from.
Now having said all that let me make it clear that my opinion is in no way compromised by the fact that this tiny little point is the difference between me making the states and missing out, that has absolutely nothing to do with it
What does everyone think?
PS. I still have a glimmer of hope at the Paayneham on Friday night so hopefully it won't matter!
