garth, i think we have come to a consensus on here

so ill ask - would it be possible in future seasons of NPL for the top 10 (or whatever) of each region to be awarded state finals? even without prizemoney associated with the leaderboard, i think it still gives someone something to strive for within their own region

Makes sense, given that Top 50 of State (which we pretty much all agree is a Metro thing), giving a common way of qualifying to Regional makes sense. And it really would encourage seeing different venues within the region.

I guess the only issue stems from regions that are spread far apart.

For example, if there are only 5 venues in the Far North Region, and they are all 45 minutes apart, then the venue with the most average runners would always finish top.

this already happens in the B&G to a certain extent - you have to finish in the top 10 of the kingy on a thursday to do well in the region, seeing as it averages 65 ro 70 wheras the other venues average 40 odd.

i just think that this is a good way of rewarding the person that finishes 6th on the regional leaderboard, but also finishes 6th in each of his venues and misses out on states.

The riverland region contains a few venues that are close to each other. but some that are ages away. waikerie is 30 mins from closest venue, but the riverland region also includes lameroo (2 hours min. away) and broken hill (in a different state).

But have regional LB as a qual for states would make me play other venues in my region more than i do. hell even make it top 15, cos currently the regional leaderboards are worth nothing.

That is basically the reason I dont play any other R'Land Venues.

So Garth if you can see dump the SLB as an avenue to the SF and make the RLB's a vehicle to enter the SF, it would give some of the smaller venues in a region a chance to gain extra numbers, because its an advantage to play the venues in your region.

As trade off for those remote venues that would make it almost impossible play multiple venues increase their venue qualification to 7.

Whilst there is no reason to play additional venues in my region, I wont play them on a regular basis.

Gundog, are we to assume that your idea of 'regional leaderboards' also includes those metro leaderboards (which currently do nothing) ?
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

You could maybe go further with this.

Venue Top 5 - Qualify for state
Regional LB Top 10 - Qualify for state
Regional LB Top 2 - small cash prize
State LB Top 2 - small cash prize

* maybe = just throwing an idea out there
