Re: GF-Where and when?
At least 15 - twenty melbourne players won their seat two weeks prior to the final and managed to get flights and somewhere to stay at reasonable prices.

Re: GF-Where and when?
I'm a little like you Larx. For me as a retiree it's easy but for Donna running a nursing home with 42 residents plus staff and trying to cover her shifts with the correct staff is a pain in the butt.
We were hoping to take 2 weeks off. One in Melbourne and the other taking our time coming home and staying at places along the Great Ocean Road, Warnambool, Mount Gambier and the Coorong.
And now her sister will be flying down from Sydney to spend the first week with us in Melbourne. So I need to book a 2 bedroom apartment once I know the dates LOL.

Re: GF-Where and when?
Shrug all you like Garth.
I was just explaining to Larx what I'd like to do and make a holiday of it all plus catching up with family and friends.
However, at the moment my plans and I assume others like Larx are in limbo until you and or the FHG decides when and where the GF will be held.
I'm a little surprised that a major player like the FHG haven't had the dates and locations for all the major events for the year already arranged Pre-Season!!

Re: GF-Where and when?
I have always found wot if a great site for getting accommodation at short notice and there always seems to be quite a few available even in football final season. As for travel we drove to Adelaide when we went and it was a really nice drive (it helped that we had good friends traveling with us). Due to work I only had the two days in Adelaide and wish it was more I have always found it to be a beautiful city. With mine I only had two weeks to arrange everything so that prevented me from staying longer also.
I think that Garth and the FHG do a wonderful job of supporting poker and I know that as always they will keep us informed as information comes to hand. This is a big event which requires a lot of work to ensure that we as players get to enjoy a wonderful weekend of poker. I am sure that all involved will do a stellar job just as they have for the last 2 grand finals.

Notice the heading of this forum Bob - ASK THE 888PL, what was the intent of you post and was it adding anything to this public forum. I explained where we are at in this thread and i saw no point for others to add their stories as well.
And to be quite honest, planning and organising dates for events that are further than 6 months away is not as easy as typing the concept.
Management changes, bookings are lost, budget changes, special event dates, conflict with other special events in that particular states, sourcing special guest and adhering to their schedules, designing the event and side events, sourcing entertainment, sourcing travel and accom deals for interstate players, dealing with business partners and sponsors and their needs and so many more things.
I'm sorry that we haven't finalised a date as yet so you can orgnanise your two weeks off four months in advance. I have already done more than I should by informing you previously of the three possible dates and the fact that we are trying to get Shane Warne to attend this one as well as other special guests.
But I tell you what, let's just have a stab and settle on August 20th - 22nd so you can organise your time off and accomodation now. If we don't get the venue we want or the guests we want or the ability to run the special side events we want, it will be ok. Because at least you got your notice of dates two weeks earlier than scheduled and could organise your time off and holidays.

Bob, let's put it another way, what if you rush Garth into putting out info before everything is locked in place, then you book your travel accordingly, only to have the venue or the promoted celebrity(s) change the plans a few weeks later. How pissed off would you be then??
Isn't it worth a few weeks to make sure that the info is set in stone (keeping in mind we are talking about an event that is 4+ months away), rather than semi-accurate info that may fall over??
What?, poker without the river??, you've just made my dreams come true!!!
