i just hate anyone talking about a hand.
if 3 clubs comes out, 'Ohhh, who's got the clubs', or 4 clubs, 'Ohhhh, who's got the ace'
same with straights, etc etc
quite simply, stfu.

Re: Poker Edict
You can't get bothered about knocking friends out. You can only knock them out if they call. Especially on the first hand of the night obviously he was trying to knock you out.

Re: Poker Edict
Mayhap we should open up another thread called pet hates
Seems as though this one's going off on a tangent a bit. Most of the ones that have been mentioned, I'm in complete agreeance.
JT... I'm very reserved with KJ. It's never been a great hand for me
I do the exact same thing at the start of a game in the NPL that my old man is in. I try to stay away from his table as he's my executioner. He'll try and knock me out just for fun, regardless of what he's got
But you can't knock that, he plays the cards as they come, regardless of who's in the hand.
EDIT: It also always fun betting against Pete. The line I've come accustomed to.... "You're walking home!"
I expect that one day i shall be

Re: Poker Edict
good point ondie, tis getting a wee bit off track.
Let's whittle it down to asking for some clarification on.....
1) table talk
2) showing cards (to anyone at all)
3) advice from anyone at all about how to play your hand
Garth, the masses await

"I fold, but i'm holding onto my (now) mucked cards so i can show you all what i folded once the hand has transpired..."
I'm sorry, but you've mucked. Throw them in, wipe away the tear and move on.

Alright i will breifly explain these,
1) Players are obligated to protect the other players in the tournament at all times. Therefore, players, whether in the hand or not, may not:
1. Disclose contents of live or folded hands
2. Advise or criticize play before the action is complete
3. Read a hand that hasn’t been tabled
this is the reasons for table talk to be kept to a minimum, i agree people should not be saying who's got a particular card to make a hand, if people do not know what cards there hand makes then it should be there bad luck. this is a very hard thing to police in a freeroll tourny in a pub. that is why it is the tables job to help police these rules.
2) show a live hand while people still got action pending is a muck, people really shouldnt be showing there mates behind them there hands but you see it happening all the time. i not really against people looking at hands from behind if there not giving anything away at all during the hand. cos that could be the last thing the player wants is to be disadvantaged due to there friend giving off information
3) One player per hand is the rule. No advice can be given by anyone else to the player in control of the hand.
hope this clarifies some of the confusion
Ashley

Re: Poker Edict
Hi Everybody,
Sorry it has taken me so long to reply to this post.
In terms pf JT's posts:
Table talk of this nature is never permitted and is a form of collusion. I would recommend to that TD, and I know they will be reading this,
that if they receive a complaint of this nature then that table becomes a priority to be broken and to dispers those players among the other tables.
In regards to soft play: there is not much we can do about this, friends and family will sometimes soft play each other in a hand, especially if someone on the table presents themselves as a "target".
There is no rule to enforce in regards to this or no real possible way to prove that they are soft playing each other.
I personally love taking out family and friends, when my father, brother and I sit at a poker table look out for the fireworks. I did feel guilty the one day I knocked dad out of a tourney at Crown, it was his birthday! But only for a second.
Pete:
1.) I love to table talk, I love getting information; listening to people's story or listening to their pitch change or making them uncomfortable. Unfortunately it is being stamped out, I only do this heads up, most times, and it is really the only time it should be allowed. The main rule to guide you here is: if your not in the hand, do not talk! and if you do make sure it is not poker related.
Comments like "Who's got a club?", Someone's got a straight etc..... are completely out of line and unacceptable.
2.) Only one person to a hand at any time! Showing your cards to other players, even if they are not live, puts the other player at a disadvantage. If someone exposes their hole cards to a fellow player then they are disclosing playing information to only one player and putting the rest of the table at a disadvantage, if they fold this hand then once the hand is completed those hole cards are disclosed to the whole table. If the player they showed them to are live then they are shown to the whole table immediately.
Cards should never be exposed to anybody until the hand, or all live betting, is completed!
3.) Again, only one person to a hand at any time. Offering or accepting advice is a form of collusion and should not be tolerated. It's one of my pet hates in home games or even in some poker rooms when a player says "you've got to call", especially when I have set them up the whole way for a all in bluff on the river.
