Re: I was dared
I remember once at an NPL game, I think it was benny the cunt, he used the word about himself ("I'm a don.key" or something to that effect) and got a told not to use the word, then received a warning.
My understanding is that no matter the circumstances, you cannot use the word. At all.

Re: I was dared
We are not allowed to use the word in any way whatsoever.
One night a player said it as a joke and was given a warning.. He nearly got 10 weeks!
After hearing the reasons behind the word not being used I can understand it and to this day some players that return to NPL still use the word and get pulled up by other players on the table quick smart!
If you need to be a follower and do the dare that you were given, go ahead, but no doubt you will get the fair treatment you deserve!
Personally I am not sure I see the thrill in the dare given, seems kind of lame to me.

Re: I was dared
David I agree (as well as finding that hugely amusing).
However, lots of players started the donkey calling without players being aware of what it meant. Everyone now knows what it means and finds it largely offensive. Swearing is not permitted, so going off like that automatically does result in repercussions.
I also find it highly amusing that the worst player that was known for calling people donkeys and would go on about it all night, is now one of the favourite TDs going around.
Again, human nature is human nature. I just find it can be a bunch of rules for one selection of people and another set for another, that is all.

exactly
but if i laugh and say sucked in i don-ked u bad when i beat one of my NPL mates that i regularly play with, and we both have a laugh about it, what is wrong with that?

Re: I was dared
Nevah, i was dared to point out the avatar on the forum.
The person who dared me was surprised that no-one had said anything about it as yet, considering that it is a VERY big no-no in NPL land.
The dare was to bring it up for discussion about the avatar.

Re: I was dared
Ok so we ban the donkey word, many directors take that stance.
I don't have a problem with either stance, I personally don't use the word in any context, I will say out loud that I played that hand extremely badly.
But that is as far as it goes. What we were stamping out was the continual use of the word by players directed to other players and especially the intimidation of new players.
ALK used the word in a forum post yesterday or the day before, as a verb. I believe the expression was "before I get donk.eyed", or something along those lines.
Many directors do take the hard line on he use of his word, but I think we are all overlooking the issue of why it was first introduced.
Matty change your avatar so I don't have to deal with these types of questions again. Immediately, and to be quite honest I had no idea that was his avatar and I would never allow a staff member to use something of this sort. I had to find out who you were talking about Shannon.

too hard to police?
it also puts the onus back on players who aren't your mate to call the TDs attention to your language.....
Just easier with a blanket ban I would have thought.

Have a think about it, do you only say that when your at the table with your mates or are there other players there, that might be passing through for a one night game there?
Whats to say the one night game player doesn't go back to his regular place and tell his mates that they are allowed to say this word at this place so they should be able to say it?
Then words spreads and it becomes a regular word again with people punching people for using it. Wouldn't it be best to just not use it at all?
Ohh and how does anyone know your regular players and the such? Most of the time we get to know eachother I agree, but there is always going to be someone around that doesn't know the dynamics of a group.
However, I do agree that it would be cool to be able to say to mates and friends at the table ... sucked in such and such... LOL
Just my thought on it anyway.
