My opinion doesn't have much weight but calling sounds horrible.

Yes, it does - on both parts.

when you have less than 15 big blinds (or maybe even 20) you should basically never flat call anything.

either a shove or a fold are ok, depending on your reads, but since you are in the money already i would shove.

I think it would be an inexpensive steal most of the time.

seems like they woke up with big hands here though, that doesnt happen very often, and if you can steal it makes a huge difference to your stack
