i was in a tourney online blinds 100 200 had about an average stack Had [as] [kd] in the small blind, 2 limpers from UTG and button i raise it up to 600 BB UTG and Button call.
Flop: [ah] [kc] [10h] i check hoping for a check raise, it gets checked around.
turn: [kh] i check again hoping for another heart to pop on the river so the boards 4 flushed and i take it down with my house someone bets 200 called by everyone
river: [qh] i bet 1200 of my 2000 stack, guy shoves all in, i knew he had it but i was way commited and called, and he showed [jh] [9d] for the ROYAL EFFING FLUSH!! i was quite angry, if i just bet that flop i would of taken it down.

There is always a risk in slow playing, but it is the best way to generate a large pot.

Over the 20 times that you will play that hand, how likely is the person going to be holding the J of hearts or Pocket aces. Not that many.

yeh, i dont think there was anything wrong with the way i played the hand any other heart and i was getting paid off. but oh well.

I'd have to disagree with you there Krunchie - putting money into a pot is usually the best way to generate a big one. How often do you call a check/raise without a huge hand yourself? Bet like you've got top/mid pair with a reasonable kicker, and you can often get far more chips in there than check/raising, or check/check/all-in.

If you've got a big hand, you want to stack your opponent, not have them fold on the river when you over-bet the pot trying to get too much value - carefully sized bets on each street will allow those who are going to call you, to come along for the ride, and those who are not going to come along, well.... unless they are prone to bluffing...... you aren't going to get them to pay off much anyway.

Back to the OPs hand, that is a bit of back luck, hard to fold a full house there (damn short-ish stacks), but there really were not too many hearts he was going over the top of you with... OUCH!

if you min bet or maybe bet up to half pot, then flush draws and top pairs are probably staying in the hand - check raising these people makes them fold

so a lot of the time, betting on every street is the better way to go, because you can commit their stack on the river because of the amount they already have in the pot

and tommo, if someone gets a royal against you, you grin and bear it - you are never folding in that spot with a house, so there is nothing you can do.
