Now this a bad beat, but I'm the idiot who won...

Postby Caleb » Sun Sep 28, 2008 10:51 pm

After the NPL paintball saga last saturday (aka Let's all shoot Butler & Cresswell) I played at the tower and then went to the Casino.

I got there at around 10, didn't want to wait for a seat so for the first time ever I played Limit Holdem for money. I sat there over 7 hours and ground out about $400 profit. It was the way I won most of it that's sickening. It was a table for the chasers like I'd never seen. If you had options you had to call, because they were hitting like crazy.

One REALLY bad play I won on as an example:

I had [9d 6c]. Called a raise pre-flop.

Flop [qd 7s 5s]
Bet with 2 callers, including me.

Turn [qc]
Bet with 2 callers again...

River [8d]

I hit my gut-shot on the river and beat AQ & KQ. I never, ever play like that but for some reason I just KNEW I would hit it.

Now, the real story.

The Arkaba late game had finished and several players from there joined my table, including Adrian, Duty Manager of the Glynde Hotel. I've worked there several times and consider myself good mates with him, we always bitch to each other about how bad everyone else is at poker.

About 10 hands in he gets pocket Aces and gets beaten by a drunk player with [10s 3s]. He's now going on tilt, raving about how limit is s*** because you always get people who call just because they are suited.

4 hands after that I look down at [5c 2c]. I had had that hand (52s) 3 times prior that night and every time I would've flopped the winning hand but hadn't even called the blinds, so I resolved to see a flop no matter what.

There is a raise and a re-raise pre-flop, including 1 by Adrian. I call it all ($12).

Flop comes...
[ac 9c 3c]

I bet, he re-raises. The other guy folds. Just heads-up now. We keep raising to cap.

Turn
[8h]
Again, we keep raising to cap.

River
[7d]
I act first and bet, he just calls, somewhat worried now, sensing he's about to lose.

I table my flush, he looks at me with absolute digust and rolls over [ah as].

I apologize as much as I can while I rake in his (i mean MY) chips and try as best I could to explain my reasoning for seeing a flop.

He looks at me and says:
"Look I like and respect you, but I've had a really bad f****** day and that s*** just tops it off. Don't take this the way wrong, but don't speak to me right now."

Oops.....

What tops it off is I worked at the Glynde wednesday, and while he forgave me and had a laugh about it, he would not stop talking about it to anyone that would listen... He's giving the story a real thrashing.... :)
