Seriously, this is the last bad beat post i make on this forum. this time, it was me all in for 2800 with [as] [qs] when the blinds were 300-600, and the dealer calls my all in for about half her stack with [jd] [9d]. needless to say, she flopped a gutshot and made it on the turn, and that was me home.

the poker gods are telling me to stop winging, so i am going to...

At least you didn't get smashed by some mule who thought pushing all in with Q 10 off was a good idea, and then hitting some miracle two outer on the river... ;)

What an unenjoyable night though, for several reasons.

(sorry ALK, thats the last I'll mention it, but you have to stop talking about my suckout at the Deepstack now, k? ;))

Yeah, sometimes even I'm amazed at the run I'm getting Finno :P

benny the cunt: You've had worse beats, admit it. There will be more. And we will hear about them. Just gonna throw this out there... I like reading about bad beats. benny the cunt's, mine, Scott's (when he often does post one, they are so sick). So nyah.

Maybe it's got something to do with you being an average player and luck finally catching up with you and not letting you win for once. Hey benny the cunt ;)

Maybe it's all about putting yourself in a position where your tournament life is at stake and you're not an overwhelming favorite.

You don't exactly give a lot of information in your stories as to what position you're in, how many on the table, what type of player your opponent is, previous hand history, your table image.

All of these subjects amount to a more in depth and detailed story that results in a more accurate picture of why you are losing chips and being called down with marginal holdings.

Why all in for 2800 with blinds at 300/600, from what position?
In an NPL structured tournament calling off half your stack to increase it by 25-40% isn't necessarily a bad thing, by no means is it the best, but I love to gamble. And in that situation with J 9 I am either in a race or more than likely a 4 to 3 underdog.

Lastly, what are you doing with 2800 at the 300/600 blind stages? The time to get aggressive has well and truly passed and you are extremely short stacked. You should have being shoving at 200/400 or at least making plays, but you tell so many people that you push too often that your table image just won't help you out at this stage of the tournament.

You rate yourself as a reader, then use though reads. If you think it's going to be a coin flip or 60/40 race then shove to a pre flop raise. There is this wondorous thing called fold equity, and the more pressure you put your opponent to a decision for their stack and tournament life the greater chance you will get a fold and increase your stack by greater than 10%.

Just my two cents worth. But there is no point posting a bad beat story unless you fill it with more information and really analyse the hand.

Posting about bad beats isn't always about venting or whinging but rather educating yourself and others as to possible mistakes in that hand and where you can correct these next time.

fair points garth.

the reason i only had 2800 was because i just lost a pot a couple of hands before, when i had 88 and raised, got called down by ace rag and the board came with aces and kings, so i lost about 2400 in that hand. i probably played this hand incorrectly, as i should have shoved, but i was UTG, so i thought a 3BB raise was a better move to make. but that was a previous hand.

thinking about it more closely, i was cutoff-1, and there were 2 callers, from UTG and no 1. so there was already 2100 in the pot. (darren was actually dealing, not the person that called me. my bad)

so when i got dealt [as] [qs], i thought it was the right move to make. i thought about just raising, but with the amount of chips i had, i was probably shoving on the flop regardless of whether i caught a piece of it or not, so i decided to go all in and either take the blinds, or hopefully only get 1 caller.

this happened, and when she turned over J9, i was happy, although as you say, it was only a 60-40 situation.

i guess what i am trying to say is, i think i have been playing pretty well over the course of this season, certainly as well if not better than last season, but all of the coin flips (and 80-20 situations for that matter) have been going against me.

but hey thats poker, the whole winging part was just a joke in that i seem to be posting more bad beat stories then everyone else combined.

but you are right garth, most of the time i post a bad beat, but then i ask for comments on how people would have played that hand differently, or whether i made the right move.
