I felt sorry for Russell. I mean, he's had to have Ben & Matt as his brothers his whole life. So dropping a couple of buy ins to him was the least I could do.
I'm not perfect. I'm what perfect aspires to become

it seems we have taught him well when it comes to poker

come to think of it, we could have taught him badly, and it would still be enough to crush bacon and old man Swanky :D

Dunno about that, I dropped about $45 to him on my last hand of the night.
I played it badly, but still did not expect his hand.
A preflop raise of $1.50 didn't get him to fold A4 off suit, he managed to flop a wheel.
My mistake was shoving after the flop, on a board of 235 rainbow, I didn't want anybody crushing my pocket Queens. There was already about $10 in pot and I just wanted to take it down. Russ tanked for ages and eventually called.
It was a good call and it was a bad mistake by me.
I certainly wouldn't say I played bad that night, I kept raising great staring hand and missing flops. Worst part was i had to fold to Bacon's bets after the flop!
I dumped more money to Bacon than anybody before my soul destroying hand with Russ.
I managed to claw all my chips back over an hour and a half then dump then in one bad mistake.
I had to leave after that or I would have dropped more. Gotta no when to get the hell out of Dodge.
Was a good night though.
Still i think I'll stick tournaments, just not a cash game guy.
:D

i was only joking before, but i think this is an ok hand to discuss anyway.

firstly, EVERYONE calls preflop in these cash games with just about anything. so i think A4 is completely fine to call with, especially when you are nearly 200bb deep.

on the flop, as far as i know, bacon led, then russ raised, then you shoved. i am guessing you were the preflop raiser also. so your shove looks really really strong on a board like that. i would give you QQ+ straight away, or maybe a set. but not much worse.

question for you

when you shove, what worse hands call? what better hands fold?

to be honest with you, i think you have turned QQ into a bluff here - i.e only better hands call you.

JJ and TT might call, but i doubt anything else would. there are basically no 2 pair hands in anyone's range, maybe something like 45 but unlikely.

so basically, you are in a situation where you either way ahead, or way behind.

i think the best bet is to call and re-evaluate the turn.

i think its just experience. if you had 20-40 BB, i think your play is completely fine, but 200bb deep its not that great imho. aaron and i were actually talking about this the other day, not about you specifically, but about people at 888pl that are really good players, but have only had experience at shallow stack poker, and they get exposed a bit when people get deeper. it really is the major difference between cash and tourney poker.

shame i missed it :(
